Can anyone recommend suggestions for substituting for that little "reward" glass of wine many women reward themselves with at the end of the day? I love, love, love red wine, but need to cut the calories. I otherwise eat very clean and average 1200 or so calories a day, but I need to get super skinny (had my nice clothes taken in one too many times :oops![]() |
That was supposed to be an embarrassed face, not a smiley... |
low fat hot chocolate w/ ff whipped cream on top. (at least for winter...)
Summer...lemonade sweetened with splenda perhaps? |
Caveat is that I don't drink alcohol except at restaurants or on special occasions, in part due to keep the calories off. But if you love it so much, can you just have half of your normal amount each night? For me, if I truly love something, nothing is a good substitute.
I bet you are more habituated to it than anything, so another option is try to go 3 weeks without it, and you may break the habit altogether. Then you can just have wine on occasion, on weekends only. |
Is that a healthy weight for you? If not, you don't want to make yourself miserable by maintaining a weight that doesn't fit your body. If it is a comfortable weight for you and since you do love your wine, can you add in some extra exercise to combat the calories? a 20 minute walk? |
Xanax? |
I drink a hot cup of coffee (in the winter anyway). Black. You can do decaf if you want. I find a warm drink to be more relaxing at night. |
I know a lot of people who have substituted hot herbal tea. Good luck to you!

This is how I'd handle it. It seems a shame to give up such a little indulgence you really enjoy. We're talking 74 calories here. Without knowing you at all and only going with what youv'e put in your post, I'm a little concerned for you. |
Someone on this site a while back suggested substituting a glass of perrier. I found that really works. |

Without knowing you at all and only going with what youv'e put in your post, I'm a little concerned for you. OK, I actually looked it up. You can work off this glass of wine by sleeping for an hour and ten minutes, moving furniture for ten minutes, or going bowling for twenty minutes. |
Thanks for the tips! I appreciate those who say don't give it up, but at my age my doc says I probably shouldn't drink more than 3 glasses a week anyway. Something about it hitting you harder and breast cancer risk. Sometimes I feel like once you hit 40 all that's left are good books and a tiny quantity of chocolate. Not that those things are bad, but youth really is wasted on the young! Now that I know how to spot a really good wine, I can hardly drink it. |
What about one bottle of miller lite or low cal beer? |
Seriously? |
Yes seriously, why not? |
