Lots of things adults do legally that kids should get in trouble for. Would it be ok for the kid to bring in a 5th of jack?

This could happen if it was an Advil. Don't jump to conclusions.

Yeah, some of these zero tolerance policies are crazy.

Ms Deeny sent out a letter saying that a police were called over an illegal substance.

Someone posted on our listserve that it was a 7th grade student who dropped a bag of marijuana in front of the security guard. This brought out all the usual Takoma Park nutters that were appalled that police were called, and questioned the kids 10 day suspension.

It was really funny to read the responses, gotta love Takoma.

Well, to be fair to the kid, it would be legal if he were six blocks further south over the DC border, right?

Wrong -- unless the middle-school student is at least 21.

It was on the TPMS PTA listserve. It was not a tomato leaf it was marijuana.

I thought MCPS had revised suspension policies and was supposed to avoid suspension if at all possible.

Suspension is justified. Lucky he wasn't expelled! I wonder if they'll find out who his source is.
