Nice present for MIL recovering from surgery

Anonymous
Seeking advice because I am racking my brain and am not coming up with anything!

I really like my MIL and get along well with her; she's also been an awesome grandmother to our kids. She's recently had major surgery and is now on the mend but is housebound for the next month or so. I would like to send her a get-well gift but am not sure what to send - she obviously can't go out so restaurant gift cards are out (that is what we usually get her - she is a fan of some of the big chain restaurants); she doesn't drink nor does she like chocolates. DH has been completely unhelpful (he's usually not good at that stuff). Any advice on gifts to a fairly traditional lady in her 70s? I really cannot think of anything.

Flowers? Meal delivery service? Get well cards and pics from the kids? Subscription to Netflix?

Does she like to cook, could you do like Blue Apron or such? Does she have a Kindle or Netflix?

More information might help. Can she walk? Bedridden? Use of arms? Are you local to her?

I have had several surgeries that left me so I could not walk. People thought I would get so much reading done but it would just put me to sleep.

A new comfortable outfit to lay around in. It feels nice to get out of the usual PJs and sweats in a new pair.
Gift cards for movies, netflix, etc.
Things to snack on
Does she enjoy any crafts? Knitting? Embroidery?
A beautiful blanket.
iPad.

My own mom recovered from open heart surgery and one of her favorite gifts received was a huge gift box filled with small, wrapped presents...and instructions to open one every day for a month.

She since has done the same for friends who are on bed rest or recovering from surgery.

Ideas would be a mini manicure set, favorite magazines, inspirational book, crossword puzzle book, hand lotion, fancy handkerchiefs/purse pack tissues, carafe set (for water bedside), cutesy straws, light shawl or scarf, small throw blanket, fluffy socks, etc.

That sounds outrageously expensive.

Thank you! Sadly, we are not local. She already has an iPad and a Netflix subscription. She can walk, a little, and can use her arms OK. She does love knitting and sewing. I am, OTOH, completely ignorant of what a knitter/sewer would like.

Go to a sewing store and ask them. The ladies there will be able to pick you out some nice yarn or whatever shit those people use.

Then you must not be a bargain shopper; I was thinking of cute cozy socks for $10, magazines could be $10, nice shawl like I just bought for my MIL, $25. Do I need to specific stores?

Does she do well with plants or enjoy gardening? If so, you could call the best florist in her town and have them deliver a large dish garden in either a beautiful ceramic bowl or high quality basket.

When my mom was recovering from surgery, I could not go be with her but sent a dish garden basket (so much better than cut flowers). Anyway, once she got well, she tranplanted the different plants into other pots or her yard. Many years later, she still likes to point on the (now) large hydrangea in her yard that came as just a small plant in the dish garden.

Check out Purl Soho website. They have some really wonderful stuff and you can call to ask for advice. They have some preset kits that include everything you would need. They are really wonderful.

Is there a way you could organize a big selection of podcasts for her to listen to?

My MIL loves fruit. I'd probably send her an edible arrangement or Harry and David basket.
