| Decade plus Turbo Tax user but very spooked by the identity fraud and version up-charge issues earlier this year, so I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? TSP, 529, IRA, Health FSA, Dependent Care FSA, mortgage interest, charitable donations are deductions for 2014 |

Are you looking for a service to use online or software to download and the file and information gets stored on your computer?
I would use any of the ones that store on your computer, even TurboTax. This year I used H&R Block's software, be because TT increased its system requirements again so I would have had to upgrade my entire computer to use it, or use one of the online versions. Block was fine. I don't trust any of them where they keep their information on their servers. |

| Been using H&R Block for the last 6 years and I'm really satisfied with it. |

I've been using Turbotax since the mid 90s but decided to give another company a try after Intuit took out the Schedule D (for stocks and investments) from the Deluxe Version, making customers have to pay for the higher version to be able to do what they were able to do in previous years.
I've always questioned if Turbotax was worth it because my taxes are fairly straightforward. But my spouse's finances does makes things more difficult. This isn't the link that I found before when researching it but is something similar: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1904319,00.asp I can't find the links that I found before and think that I might've looked at reviews from previous years as well. And without looking at it, I think this link probably mentions how Turbotax is taking a big hit this year. http://www.forbes.com/sites/johntobey/2015/01/13/turbotax-missteps-intuit-uncertainty-and-hr-block-opportunity/ When I looked into it, TaxAct is the cheapest and has pretty decent reviews. The issue for me was that you can only buy it directly from that site. So ended up going with HR Block because you can buy it from multiple retailers. I did consider just going ahead and getting Turbotax, especially since they started to offer free upgrades for people who need the Schedule D. But figured that I've always wanted to try another software. So far HR Block seems pretty decent. I actually didn't like how Turbotax changed their layout/format a few years ago, where it's more wizard based. And I think HR Block offered the more straightforward format that I preferred. |
| I would use any that you save on your own computer. I will not use web based returns. |
