Um no. They are not. Manipulation is an aspect of abuse. Not every manipulation is undertaken by an abuser. Moreover, there is a spectrum of manipulation. Ted Bundy manipulated women. Bernie Maddof manipulated people. Scott Peterson manipulated people. Cosby manipulated people. I told my mom I liked her outfit even though I don’t like it all that much - that’s manipulated love too.

Agreed. And the hate towards Alec and towards her children is astounding from the person who has outed her. This is being abusive and evil.

Hilaria was not truthful about being Spanish. That is the extent of her lies. She is a nobody and does not impact policy, our taxes, pandemic, popular culture or anything. She is really a minor celebrity. But to hate her so much is not a normal response. THere is some mental illness playing out here, but the NPD person is not Hilaria here. She is an insecure person who created an interesting persona for herself. But she is unfortunately in the crosshairs of a very dangerous NPD person. I have compassion for Hillaria because no mom of 5, who has a 3 month old too, should be facing this kind of abuse during a pandemic.

People will believe someone and give them the benefit of the doubt about their identity because... why would you lie about something like that?! I am an Arabic speaker and if I met someone and they told me they were Lebanese and raised between Beirut and Boston and their accent in Arabic was a little funny, it wouldn’t even OCCUR to me to question their truthfulness; I would be finding reasons for the discrepancy in my own mind, like maybe their more formative years were in the US, maybe they don’t speak Arabic as much in the home, maybe their schools focused more on French and English. Them being a manipulative liar would be last on the list!

I don't think he had a clue in the beginning, I think he was convinced she was fully Spanish but maybe the truth started to sink in a little bit when they applied for their marriage licence and she had to divulge her place of birth and her parents place of birth. But I really think she continued the con by pretending her one of her Grandparents was Spanish. There is a clip of Alec in 2014 at a press conference in Spain talking about how she was born in Boston but spent half her childhood in Spain because her paternal Grandmother was Spanish. It wouldn't surprise me if he believed that right up to a few days ago and only found out she was lying along with the rest of the world.

I feel really bad for him despite his lashing out. It seems like he really did believe her initially and I don’t blame him- why would someone lie about something this stupid? Why would someone fake an accent for over a decade? She told him she spent her childhood between Boston and Spain and that seems completely plausible. She’s humiliated him.

This. Feeling sorry for him seems OTT, but I do too. He seems to have been conned. That would surely explain having so many kids so quickly. Once he started to suspect, play on his not wanting to look like a sucker and then make him part of the lie. They probably do need the $$ she generates (in addition to his), which is based specifically on being Alec’s semi-exotic yoga teacher Spanish wife, to support 5 kids in the lifestyle for the next 25 years.

See, she was not only lying to Alex, but making a brand out of lying to everyone. Not to mention, the cultural appropriation. For a lot of us first generation Americans, and what we have had to go through, this is unfathomable. Those trying to shirk her extremely long running deceits (plural) as a one off are not doing their homework. He may have some sympathy, as he is a narcissist, himself - but the rest of us don't forget, much as her sub par PR firm wants us to.

The joke is, most men would be happy with a "pretty, rich, woman from Boston" - why did she feel the need to do this? I think it was because she stalked him, and she wanted to be opposite the beautiful ex wife, actress and model Kim Bassinger. Maybe I know too much about this situation, but this is my two cents.

To add, some people have big families to "keep" their man, for financial reasons, or otherwise. Think of the big families you know, and who the wife is (often a SAHM - or at least lower paid than the husband), vs. who the husband is (doctor, actor, etc.).
