NCRC Parents

Now that the dust is settling, do any NCRC parents care to weigh in on whether, in their opinions, their children's admissions (or not) to the area private schools were affected by the change in NCRC head of school?

Try to remember that applications were up 10-30% at schools in the area. Even the former director would've been contending with stiffer competition in exmissions this year.

Do they actually call it "exmissions" at NCRC? This is a fake word. I have never seen it used anywhere outside of this message board.

Where did you find this figure?

Try Googling the term "exmissions" -- many schools seem to use it.

former ncrc parent here. never heard the word used by anyone at the school, parent, teacher or admin.

I think the original question was whether "children's admissions (or not) to the area private schools were affected by the change in NCRC head of school?" Lets get off this "exmissions" word.

The back and forth on this message thread is a metaphor for the absurdly competitive parenting style that poisons the DC area.

PP, well stated, this whole process is really a shame as it clearly defines the fact that the competitive parenting style in the area is absurd! and, the emphasis put on the admissions, w/l, and denials for 4/5 year olds to private schools is even more absurd.

Putting aside the debate whether "exmissions" is a contrived word, etc, we were told the following stats by four admissions offices over the last few months: "our apps are up over 10%," "even in this economy, we had 20% more folks applying this year for the same number of slots, " "our applicant pool has expanded by 15%," and "decisions will be very difficult this year with a near 30% increase in applications." Some offices said this to us during the process; one school said this to us after our DC was admitted.

Even a seasoned preschool director faces tough odds with such stats. More apps mean more great kids. I am relieved that I do not work in either admissions or exmissions/placement/whatever you choose to call it.

A pre-school director should not be working the phones to get kids into private schools!!

There was some nervousness expressed on another thread by NCRC parents applying to schools and now that most decisions are out, it's awfully quiet on this thread about results. I hope it's not No News is BAD news.

Why do you say that? I'm curious as some of the posts on this and other threads has been the exact opposite. Our director wrote a letter on behalf of our DC, but was unsolicited on our part. We were thrilled that she did so, but we did not have an expectation that she would.

I think it has varied by family.
