Where can DH and I take a 2.5 yr old and not be bored when she's in bed?

Anonymous
DH and I really want to go on vacation. DD is 2 and we don't have the option to not take her with us, and we wouldn't want to. In a few months, we want to take a vacation but we don't know where we could go where we wouldn't be bored after DD goes to bed (8ish). We wouldn't be able to leave the hotel room/rented apartment/rented house. Any suggestions? We are willing to fly.

Do I misunderstand your question? Since you have to stay with her, it doesn't matter where you go, unless you hire a sitter.

Book a hotel that has a suite, so you have an extra room.

Go with another family and get a place where the grown-ups can hang out and socialize after the kids go to bed.

I'd pick somewhere with a balcony and a view.

VRBO and get a condo.

I think there are a few options, a few of which have already been mentioned:

1. Suite. Be careful, though. A LOT of rooms that are termed "suites" don't have an actual door separating the rooms.
a.There are also places that have plunge pools or access to the pool literally at your room, so if you left the door open and/or used a baby monitor, you could enjoy the pool some.
b. Same as (a) but a jacuzzi.

Be somewhat cautious though if being outdoors is your only option. The last place we stayed at had a lovely balcony, but once the sun went down the mosquitoes were so bad I couldn't be outdoors.

2. Place with babysitters. We've never done that, but lots of people have. Most family friendly resorts offer this.

3. Go w/ another family. This is especially easy if you rent a house. We do OBX trips like this. Parents can also trade off evenings out.

4. Go w/ grandparents. We saw lots of this at the last resort we went to. Also works well if you rent a house.

5. Adjoining hotel rooms. Caution there is that a lot of hotels won't guarantee that.

If you can swing beachfront accommodations, it makes it easy to have one parent chill in the room (have lunch, nap, read) while the other is on the beach doing the same. Switch as needed. Loved this because when it was my turn to be alone on the beach, it was bliss.

When DD was this age we booked a hotel with a pool and jacuzzi right outside the room and just left the door open. The pool area was enclosed and not busy so it worked out fine, but check the hours first since at this hotel the pool closed at 10 p.m. and then we were stuck with nothing to do.

Stuck with nothing to do? Hotel, kid sleeping. Really?

Go some place where you can sit outside your room. Balcony, patio, etc. This is what DH and I do and it's fantastic. Get some drinks And maybe some food. So relaxing.

Why? Not everyone wants to do that for hours every night.
I feel sorry for you and for those who think sex is everything.
