I loved Julia Child's My Life In France and also MFK Fisher's books and Laurie Colwin's collections of cooking essays. Any other good food/cooking-related memoirs out there? Thanks.

+1,000,000. Heat by Bill Buford is great too. I also recommend Blood, Bones, and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton and Julie and Julia by Julie Powell.
