Starting school after Labor Day

| What is your opinion on the proposal to start school after Labor Day? I think it is a horrible idea, unless they are going to extend the year and equal amount of days in June. But I doubt that is the plan since the objective is toe extend the summer. |

I think that the proposal comes from the tourism industries of Ocean City and Deep Creek Lake. |

| Yes that is the plan. Start later..finish later to encourage 1 more beach weekend. I think it is ridiculous. Kids will have 5 days less before ap tests. This is anti education.. |

I would mind it. It seems like a disruption to start school only to break for Labor Day.

| I'm from CA, and back when I was in school they always started school after Labor Day. |

In NJ, school starts after Labor Day and have week long fall (Nov.) and winter (Feb.) breaks plus the usual 1.5 week off for Xmas holiday and spring break.
Kids dont seem to be having trouble passing AP exams. Would love for MCPS to offer a fall or winter break. |

| I prefer the schedule I grew up with, school begins around August 18th, last day of school is Friday before Memorial Day. |

My mother was a teacher and said having the first week of school before Labor Day was important for kids to get their "wiggles" out. After Labor Day, they were ready to settle down and learn. The years she taught that the school year began after Labor Day, the settle down period was longer.
