Road trip breakfast

Leaving early in the morning. What are your favorite car-friendly breakfasts to take on a road trip? Need to be something that a 5yo can manage solo, as there will be only one adult (me), and I'll be driving.

On super early departures we will do instant oatmeal in a paper cup with some mix ins like nuts or dried fruit. You can cut the water or milk a tiny bit to make it thicker.

They get a bad rap, but darn, an egg mcmuffin is about the perfect road trip breakfast. We often get when we're going hiking, kayaking, etc.

They have other options like oatmeal, and muffins too.

Hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, yogurt pouches, cheese sticks, pre-measured bags of fruit and veggies.

I had one golden road trip where DS would eat a McDonalds breakfast and then it ended.

I keep the cooler on the passenger seat and just hand stuff back.

Cheese sticks can be hard to open, but good practice for fine motor skills.

What does your kid typically eat for breakfast? there will be an easy on the road version -- ie, cereal in a baggie, yogurt in a squeeze pouch, toast or waffle wrapped in foil, bagel, belvitas, egg sandwich, etc. The only breakfast item I can think of that wouldn't work in the car is oatmeal, and a prior poster even had a good on the road idea for that!

Snack bag zip lock of granola and a spoon inside. Bananas, slices of cantalupe, cheerios.

We love road trips and mainly pack breakfast and lunches so that we only app for dinner (and then aim for a decent restaurant and not fast food).

He has been brainwashed by his public school and will not eat fast food (thanks, (Michelle) Obama!)

Usual breakfast is as little as possible, but maybe a couple of spoonfuls of cottage cheese or applesauce. Followed by a substantial snack mid morning. So I might just do a smorgasbord of some of these ideas.

Plus, it's a treat for everyone and that sets a good mood. Requesting egg whites helps me not feel so bloated too.

Will your 5 yr old eat early? My kids usually needed an hour at least before they were awake long enough to feel hungry enough for breakfast.
