We have 1 inch on the ground outside my house in NW DC.
Montgomery, Fairfax, Alex, Arlington, Howard all closed. Pls DCPS stay open! |
| We are in NW - looks like.more than that, unplowed/untreated, snow still coming down. Time to close. |
They will make a decision based on the best interest of all concerned : ) |
Please, please remember public school isn't daycare |
+1 |
| Ward 5: My road is perfectly clear. Benefit of a busy road, I guess. |
|
Close! Delayed openings are throw away day because half the kids don't go to school. Many kids in the District have inadequate coats and shoes. One slip and fall or injury due to a car/bus accident and it's all not worthwhile.
CLOSE SCHOOL!!! |
Same here. Non-busy road but there is only an inch and cars are driving just fine. |
| Just walked about two blocks. It is SLICK out there on the sidewalks and the roads. The cars may be moving okay, but I fell on the sidewalk stepping into the street. |
| Kids who don't have good coats and shoes also often don't get good meals or heat at home. If the buses are running, which they are, kids can get there for free. The snow is going to stop soon and it will be fine to travel home. It is not particularly cold outside anyway. Parents--of all income levels--need to go to work and having kids in school is safer than leaving them unattended at home. |

Bowser needed to plow the streets instead of making a "call" yesterday.
That does no good if you don't get the streets cleared/salted. |
This is me. Stokes is closed. Arggghhhh!!! |

Metro Bus tweeted 13 times that DCPS was closed today! I guess they thought it was logical that DCPS was closed today today too!
And the thing that irritates me is that our bus, if it runs today, will be empty of all the kids from the ghetto. So keeping the schools open in a misguided attempt to serve the poor is simply wrong since at least in our neighborhood they mostly do not go to school on days like today. There are plenty of other social safety nets which I am supportive of and DCPS does not need to keep schools open on a day like today. |

Primary roads are just wet. Secondary roads have maybe an inch of snow of them. Are there really cars that can't drive on that? Are there really kids who can't walk on that?
Honestly, using these standards there would be no school from Nov to March in places like Cleveland (or thousands of other towns/cities). |
I guess we forgot about that day last week when it was 5 degrees and school was open. |
