| Thinking of ordering this. I really enjoyed The Secret Life. I'm headed to the beach. Is this a good book for the beach that will make me want to read for 10yrs a day? That's the kind of book I'm looking for. Unfortunately I've read everything Kingsolver has written. Her books usually keep my engaged until all hours of the wee morning. |
| It was ok -- It started off as a page turner but as it went on I started hating the characters too much to enjoy it. FTR, I like Kingsolver but haven't read The Secret Life. |
| First 2/3 of book were excellent....the last 1/3 dragged (wordy.) |
Ohhh, I feel like it's a sign of a good book (or movie) if it draws enough emotion to make me hate the characters. |
| Similar to a Secret history. You'll enjoy it. |
The Secret History, not Life. Sorry, not trying to be a dick. And yes, it's that kind of book. At least it was for me. |
I knew I was off, but I figured people would know what I was talking about. Glad to hear it was a page turner for you. |
| My father just read it and keeps telling me I need to. |
| It was ok but not as good as her other books. Read Wolf Hall! |
| It was the most relentlessly depressing novel I have ever read, but I couldn't put it down. I'll never re-read it, though. |
| I was disappointed. Spent a lot of time reading it. I wanted to hear the end (listened to it on Audible), so kept going. Last 1/2 was not good. I wouldn't recommend. Very depressing too. |
That's how I felt too. I was disappointed by the ending. |
| Sad, compelling, beautiful. |
| I absolutely could not get into it. |
| I absolutely loved it. I know many people complained that it dragged but I, personally, didn't notice. Happy to read to the bitter end. My husband also enjoyed it. |
