| Didn't realize it was sad. that might not be the best for the beach, but I already purchased it. I did also buy The Slaughterhouse Five which is supposed to have some humor. |
| Do a search here and there are a bunch of other threads about the Goldfinch also. My friend and I both read the secret history and liked it, she read the Goldfinch and hated it. |
If you want to read about rich artsy people in New York, then go for The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. The Goldfinch was about 200 pages too long, IMHO. |
Hated the Interestings with a passion, liked the Goldfinch. If Secret History wasn't too slow for you, you'll be good with Goldfinch. |
| I loved the Goldfinch so much! The ending was pretty bad, but the prior 2/3 of the book made it worth it. |
| I loved Secret History, but the Goldfinch was slightly excruciating. |
|
Hated the Goldfinch.
Totally could not finish it. Depressing and WAY TOO LONG! Writer needed an editor desperately. |
| OP, you probably know the book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2013. If you want to know if you'll like it, read one of the NYT reviews. |
| The Interestings was a nice read but not even close to being on par with The Goldfinch. |
|
Secret History is much better.
The Interestings is entertaining but felt like Judy Blume for adults IMO. |
Wolf Hall is by Hilary Mantel. Not Donna Tartt. |
| Long and boring. Only the first third is good |
| Way too long. I loved The Secret History but I almost stopped reading The Goldfinch. |
