Every time she tried to show her spanish "hispanicity" she becomes a parody of what someone from outside thinks being Spain is. She only needed to put paella on the wedding menu (something unusual here), and toast with "kalimotxo". Honestly, it's so exaggerated that it seems like it's making fun of us.

None of it authentic, it is a pure parody. The only surprising thing is no one has called her out on it, at least publicly. I can only attribute that to her husband who is happy to keep up that charade.

Anyway, I'm a youngish boomer, about Alec's age) so I'm looking at this maybe from a different perspective. I just do not see a story here and I feel that the original tweet and subsequent investigation created a story where there was none. Intrigued and not currently working, and bored from not doing my usual things, I delved into the pieces and "video evidence."

I don't think this woman, Hilaria, conned anyone. The Spanish culture lives largely in her home, very similarly to a lot of my family and friends who are Jewish. Why isn't this the same thing? We all grew up speaking two or three languages, English, Hebrew, and Yiddish- yet most of us have had never been to Israel until adults or at all. My family has a mild accent, and family members in New York really do, yet do not live in Israel. My family calls me by a different name, and many of my friends, who are not Israeli, and not Eastern European, had full-on Jewish weddings with food and drink and language and dress and custom. They've named their kids Hebrew names. They have Judaica artwork all over their houses. Some have visited Israel, some have not. Some have friends and family who live there, some do not.

Er....do any of your non-Jewish friends had Jewish weddings? Pretended to be Jewish? Said, in Israel WE do things differently?

I am struck by how you aren't able to see a difference between someone living a true heritage vs. an invented one.

Yes, as a matter of fact I have several non-Jewish friends who chose to have a chuppa, broke a glass, said Hebrew prayers, had a type of Ketuba made, danced horas. I've been to many weddings where the couple adopted quite a few things from other heritages..namely Hindu, but also some African tribal ceremonies.

Once again, being from Spain doesn't necessarily constitute a "heritage." It's a nation, with a language, and varying cultures within the nation. It's not an ethnicity.
Maybe some of you need to get out more.

I suppose it is because here (in Spain) it was not so well known, and therefore we did not pay attention to it and the details. If I see a bride (here in Spain) with a fan on the altar, I will think that it is a very vulgar gesture, simply. But if I see someone bringing the fan to the altar because they think it is something "very Spanish", it will seem ridiculous to me, very ill-informed and so forced that it borders on parody.

If Hillary opened a "Spanish" restaurant in the US, I imagine it would be the typical one that the natives avoid, one with all the typical dishes (in the eyes of a foreigner) on the menu, paellas for two with chorizo and not a trace of a single dish typical of mallorca, her "home".

You know what I just realized, she documents her entire life on Instagram, but has she ever documented a trip to Spain? So does that mean she hasn't been to Spain since she joined IG?

It's almost like a 30 Rock episode where he keeps getting a date's ethnicity wrong until they just shrug to themself and agree that they are whatever he keeps saying.

He was obviously in on it, he's surrounded by lawyers, CAA, and NBC-Uni, but perhaps he overestimated her Spanish acuity. It's cute how codependent you yentas are on this scandal and all the fan fic; as if you're the only miserable SOBs in America with google prowess. Most of the actors, athletes and/or politicians you worship are pathological liars. Who freaking cares? Exposing the privileged cute trollop from Boston is not going to find you a husband or make you fertile or buy you a custom house in a premier zip. Your life remains, well, miserable.

This is so AB, don't you think? The "yentas" is a recurrent word. Trollop is an old word. (Who uses that?) And NBC-Uni is very insider-y.

+1 So Alec

and don't forget the reoccurring variations in every single post of:

Privileged, pretty girl from Boston
Privileged, gorgeous, white girl from Boston
Privileged, rich, beautiful girl from Boston

Also, it's their MO to attempt to shame us because we're not as rich as her, beautiful as her, fertile add her, etc and we're just jealous.

These posts are like mad-libs -- fill in the adjective of Hilly's that were "jealous" of & why were all sho inferior to her.

Their wedding rings are inscribed in Spanish.

She conned him.

Someone needs to post some of these photos.

The flamenco fan.

The mantilla.

Readings in Spanish?!?

This poor woman is completely insane.

Ask and you shall receive. This is my fave!

No puedo, me estoy orinando. How you say...I can't, I'm peeing on myself.

Oh Luuuuurd this is turrrrrrible. I'm in a full spasm of cringe for her.

Her skin is so dark and hair very black.

She had such beautiful sandy light brown hair as a child in the photo on the playground posted on reddit.

On December 27th, Alec commented on her post:

"You never claimed to be from Spain".
I understood, from day one, that you were born here and raised, for many years, in both the US and Spain, you never claimed you were from Spain.
You always maintained you were born here.
"

** It's now been confirmed that Alec was actually one of the FIRST people to publicly claim that his wife "is from Spain" in his 2013 interview with David Letterman. **

It looks like she went very early on in her marriage to Majorca but Alec wasn't with her. She made 2 trips early on when Carmen was little to Madrid, no other trips that I can see since then so maybe about 5 years wince she has been in Spain. Very odd behaviour for someone who loves Spain so much and had the resources to go there at the drop of a hat.
Her father had a few pictures on Facebook of him with his 3 grandkids in February and October 2017 taken in New York.

They don’t seem so happy now that their lies have been exposed.

What year was this? Seems to indicate he believes she’s more fluent than she is.

Sometimes I can remember the word in another language which is weird because I am far from fluent in those languages. Brain wiring is super weird and hormones really mess it up.
But, to be clear, I think she’s generally full of it. I can just see myself forgetting the word for cucumber. Or table. Or locker. Or dashboard. Those last three have all happened.

Me too, but I don't say "how you say in English?" in an accent. I live in a bilingual house and sometimes I think of it in the other language and say it, and then in my totally American dialect (I grew up here) I aay I can't think of the word in English. Learning a second language doesn't give you an accent in the first.

She did the how do you say in English thing with something else. It was part of her schtick.

That was the opposite of a sick burn.

PP here. Apparently YOU care (a lot) and you sound very miserable. I had missed the news, was catching up on this thread and clicking the links/watching the videos- too lazy to google as I didn't know this person prior to the previous link a year ago that described ol' "Hilary from Boston"- which gave everyone a giggle at the time. Fun/interesting stuff to read. As to your points (by which I am assuming you measure your own success) I'm happily married, have a few kids, no fertility issues and could not be in a better zip. I'll leave it at that, but am I allowed to read/comment on entertainment items, now, pretty please? I think you should move along- you are clearly bored so you can stop commenting in your archaic language now.

If you don't like watching the carcass be picked clean, move along as you are so obviously above it all.

Your obsession with your self and "status" is truly relentless. We get it. we believe you. you have a GREAT life. Now, accept nobody cares about this or what you think.

Yes, this is so strange. No women I know, truly, want children. They're all too into their lives, careers, etc. As if having children is some status symbol. Not surprising given the way Alex and Hillary treat their own kids like props and extensions/examples of themselves like true narcissists.
