I think what PP posted was fine. You're telling me if your own sister had a mean personality you would never wonder/speculate about why? Obviously it's not something to be speculated on with involved parties or anyone who know her but what is DCUM for if not this?

I think it's partially because DCUM doesn't skew as crunchy as it used to. Not that crunchy people can't be a-holes, but there are a lot more "traditional" people here than there used to be. Just look at the way people discuss sex, dating, fashion, discipline, etc. The DC area is relatively liberal, but it isn't all that culturally progressive.

I often come across posts that seem like they were written by the great-aunt who shares "remember when kids said sir and ma'am? remember when men were men and women were women?" posts on FB.

My take? People were pissed and angry under a stressful imbecile for president and rhey lashed out here because of all of the overt discrimination and unspoken hostility we saw all around us.

Of course, they’ve slithered into hiding behind their confederate flags now.

I don’t think anybody should spend time proofreading a post on DCUM unless it’s somehow very important. We are on our phones, trying to hit submit before the ads refresh and our post gets wiped, and in top of that we have life to worry about. It’s not healthy to stress over an autocorrect error. This isn’t a job application or something.

Idk. As someone who reports mean posts, they seem pretty equal opportunity to me. As much as I despise Trump, the meanness isn't just from his supporters. Maybe he made saying awful things feel okay for everyone.
