How Come BOE Candidate Stephen Austin Won’t Say What His Employment Is??

There's nothing super damning but a lot of Getting the Last Word Syndrome, and replying to every comment, and basically just keyboard warrioring.

Not the temperament I want on the BoE or frankly any position that includes being in the public eye.

It’s better than the current BOE simply ignoring its detractors, compounded by hide-the-ball behind consultants and double speak. I’d rather have someone who is direct and clear in his positions than pandering a political animal.

I never understand that. I'd rather have someone who is non-direct and non-clear about positions I support, than someone who is direct and clear about positions I oppose.

I had not thought of that but you have a point. I doubt there is funny business, but more irresponsible spending. Maybe he will reign in spending and hold them accountable.

Also, as someone who is not well educated in the BOE and politics, just how much power would 1 person have that so many politicians are scared of him? That also makes me wonder just how powerful the entire BOE is that they don't want someone who does not fall in line. This entire election is bizarre.

Why are you assuming that they are scared of him?

I'm not scared of Steve Austin. I'm scared of what he might do to - well, really, to civil discourse in MCPS - if he gets elected. Jay Guan shares many of his positions but does not share his temperament. And I'm not scared of Jay Guan getting elected, even though Jay Guan would actually be more effective at changing MCPS policies than Steve Austin.

If you actually want changes in the BoE and MCPS, vote for Jay Guan.

If you just want to throw a tantrum and stomp your feet, vote for Steve Austin.

Wow, I was undecided but not anymore. I'm definitely voting for Steve Austin. For all these politicians to be scared enough to gang up against one man running in a field of 13 is pretty much forcing me to vote for him to see what they could possibly be so frightened of. I know that Austin's big on financial audits. I wonder whether there is some funny business going on that they don't want exposed.

Once again... people aren't "scared of him". They just don't like his divisiveness and incivility, myself included.

It is indeed the same as Trump. As soon as you disagree with him, he ( both Trump and Austin) will start attacking you.

There's 15 candidates for the BOE, and this is the only one politicians are coming out against. They're scared of him, even though he'll have only 1 vote among 8 if elected. They know they can out-vote him, so could it be what he'll investigate, like financial accountability?

Otherwise, why worry about 1 vote out of 8 on the board?

As you say - 1 vote of 8 if elected. So what do you think he'd even accomplish, for anybody to be scared of?

Also, why would county councilmembers and Maryland General Assembly delegates be scared of investigations into MCPS finances?

He can get access to MCPS books and sources of funding (some of which come from the state), as a BOE member. He can bring that to light in public board meetings.

He can do that now, no? Has he done it?

And again, why would this scare county councilmembers and state delegates?

JOF is a crook. Pushed an agenda without public discussion and then got loud when she got caught.

Maybe Steve Austin could ask the Potomac Glen HOA to stop spamming me?

I saw her tweet that says: "EVERYTHING IS ABOUT RACE."

If for her, everything is about race, would that make her a r...?

Remind me what office she's running for? I don't see her on my ballot.

Also, please quote the whole tweet.

Also voting for Steve Austin. I don’t like large establishments bullying “the people or average man”.
It’s absurd the way Austin has been vilified.

She is not on the ballot but she is the leading actor of an ongoing lawsuit that affects many MCPS families.

You know when I lived in New England and New York, I didn't hear all these talks about race.

After I moved to Progressive Montgomery County, I was startled to read: "EVERYTHING IS ABOUT RACE."

Then I realized that I'm below Mason-Dixon line, and I'm in the American South.

"Large establishments," meaning our elected representatives?

And bullying? The man got his start in public life by flinging poo, and now he is running for public office.

Unfortunately, it looks like some of our elected representatives haven't learned the lesson that when you fight with a poo-flinger, you usually get poo on you, too.

I really hope he doesn't make it out of the primary, because the last thing we need in the county is a poo-flinger in a local public office.
