Everything I've seen says these people returned from their trip on Feb 20. That cruise was Feb 11-21, right? |
There are plenty of districts already closed around the country |
Yes. I think if these folks were from the cruise they would have just said so. |
https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2020/03/06/coronavirus-grand-princess-cruise-passengers-what-we-know/4972973002/ What about for those who disembarked from its Mexico voyage? A passenger from the Mexico voyage, Judy Cadiz of Lodi said she and her husband became ill afterward but did not give it much thought until learning a fellow traveler had died of the virus. Now they cannot get a straight answer about how to get tested, she said. With Mark Cadiz, 65, running a fever, the couple worries not only about themselves, but about the possibility that — if they contracted the infection — they could have passed it on to others. “They’re telling us to stay home, but nobody told me until yesterday to stay home. We were in Sacramento, we were in Martinez, we were in Oakland. We took a train home from the cruise,” Judy Cadiz said Thursday. “I really hope that we’re negative so nobody got infected.” |
| The three patients “were out and about, because their travel wasn’t flagged,” Hogan spokesman Mike Ricci said. The investigation will look at “where they went and who they interacted with.” |
| If it's true that they came from the cruise that everyone knew was problematic, then why was their travel not flagged? |
|
According to the WAPO article in this morning's newspapers, the three were contacted to come in for testing. In other words, they did not seek out testing.
Since their cases--so far-- are mild it is unlikely they would have been tested if they had not been contacted. Bear in mind that MD has done only 31 tests. Supposition is that they were on the first leg of Grand Princess cruise and were contacted because they names were on the manifest. |
That is my assumption. On NPR this morning they said CDC was seeking out those passengers. And from the post yesterday: "All three — a husband and wife in their 70s and a woman in her 50s — were on a cruise overseas and returned to Maryland Feb. 20, officials have said. They experienced flu-like symptoms shortly after arriving home, and sought medical treatment." |
Yeah I’m pretty sure that is completely false. They are in quarantine but they have not tested positive. |
I don't think the immediately realized there was a passenger on that ship who had it. So some time went by. |
Another thought is that they could have been on the Nile cruise. They have been doing contact tracing on that and Egypt announced that 12 crew were found to be positive today. Testing was carried out because a passenger, a Taiwanese-American, tested positive when he returned home. Not sure if that was home to Taiwan or the US. |

| This is probably way too late, but anyone know if hand sanitizer, N95 masks, etc still available anywhere in the DMV area? Should have listened to the preppers... |
Yeah... that's not true, because they said he took public transportation so NY would have hundreds of confirmed cases if this were true. |
I mean, they didn't knowingly do anything wrong.... they were on vacation, likely not paying any attention to news. They came home, felt ill, NOT unusual following travel. |
