I think some people are confusing trashy names with pretentious names.

Pretentious names are not Ainsley, Paisley, Reagan, Tiffany or Mercedes but Arabella, Nathaniel, Rosamund, Matilda, Juliette, etc

Old lady names are everywhere these days. Matilda is pretentious because of: its literary and aristocratic roots, popularity in the UK, Michelle Williams' daughter. I see it as being in the same category as Harriet, Josephine, and Florence.

It’s interesting how names can read as trashy or pretentious to different people. Names like Beckett, Ainsley, Remington sound very Teen Mom to me.
