The parents -- hopefully few -- who want the teachers gone, would never send their kids to Hardy anyhow. |
And as soon as the myth dissipates - because the few who are perpetuating it finally let it die - we can all move on. |
| OMG! It's like someone lifted the lid off a jar of venomous snakes. It's all spilling out. A school on the rise"?!? Not quite yet it seems. Hardy ...more like Hardly. |
Are you one of the snakes? If so, get back in your jar |
| It still hasn't been explained why some teachers apparently have a chip on their shoulder about in-boundary families. Is it just that they hold a years-old grudge about Rhee's plans for change? That's not healthy. |
I am actually grateful that various PPs have explained this 2010 issue a bit. I didn't know about it, but had noticed the racial tension in these Hardy threads and had been wondering where it was coming from. Now I have more of an idea. Still, this, too, shall pass. Didn't Marion Barry organize some kind of protest about Deal a few years back when they replaced the principal? And Deal is thriving. So it's likely Hardy will be able to overcome this too. |
This thread is going to make me lose my mind. Stop spreading these false rumors if you know nothing about Hardy or its teachers. I know about both, and I'll say it again: NOBODY AT HARDY - TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, STUDENTS, CUSTODIANS, OR ANYBODY - TREATS IB STUDENTS ANY DIFFERENT THAN THEY TREAT OOB STUDENTS. TEACHERS DON'T CARE IF A STUDENT IS IB OR OOB. THEY DON'T HAVE A CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDER ABOUT IB STUDENTS. THEY HAVE NO WAY TO KNOW, AND THEY HAVE NO TIME OR INTEREST IN DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN IB OR OOB. THEY ARE TOO BUSY TEACHING ALL OF THEIR STUDENTS. How do I know this? Because I am a Hardy IB parent. I don't know who is spreading these nasty rumors - maybe they are charter boosters or parents who are trying to justify their decision to pay for a $30,000 a year private school. Maybe they are potential Hardy parents who get all the news just can't help themselves and get all the news from know-nothing parents on the playground. Whoever you are, please stop spreading this false and nasty rumor. |
A prior post quipped that Hardy should arrange to have Barry protest changes there as well. That would surely cause IB parents to give the school a serious second look. |
Me too -- I was aware of it at the time, but the conversation here awakened me to the possibility that for some some IB parents, It's not enough that past bitterness keeps them away from Hardy. Their wounds are so deep that they don't ever want Hardy to succeed with more IB kids in it. And I agree -- Hardy will be able to overcome this. Not all IB parents are bitter and not all who were bitter will stay that way. And those who do will have less and less influence over other families. |
There's no explaining to be done -- it was just one person (on DCUM) who suggested that might be the case. It was the first and hopefully the last time we'll hear of it. You're right about it being unhealthy to hold a grudge though and it's unhealthier still to make one up. If you're IB Hardy, please pass that along to your neighbors. |
Having been in the same room and heard with my own ears people who are still Hardy teachers make quite categorical statements about in-boundary families, I have to respectfully disagree. |
|
Fpr anyone who thinks Hardy is going to be turned around quickly as a result of Principal Pride improving the academic environment and providing more opportunities for every student at Hardy, this thread is distressing.
There is way more going on with IB families attitude towards Hardy than meets the eye. Test scores may be a part of it, but there is quite a bit more - perception or reality - that is keeping IB families out of Hardy. |
PP, do you have an IB child attending Hardy? If not, please refrain from implying that you have any idea how IB students are treated at Hardy. There is already enough ill-informed speculation on this thread without you adding more. |
No fair spreading innuendo. Are you referring to that meeting in 2010? If not, exactly when? Really, teachers are making "categorical" statements about all sorts of things every day -- like everyone else. |
My guess is that a few, bitter, shell-shocked IB families from the fateful 2010 meeting with Rhee are trying to get eternal revenge. Don't let them do it. They had their heads turned by the hotshot, nationally recognized DCPS chancellor who sorely disappointed them, dashing their hopes and making them look ridiculous. They may choose to sulk about it and try to undermine Hardy ad infinitum , but the rest of use don't have to get taken in by them. |
