It’s not just MCPS. It’s the county. |
Easy way to fix issues in the future is to look for before and aftercare that is not located on MCPS property. |
Libraries and rec centers are open. I get schools are a much heavier lift than those, but MCPS Central Office is not. |

Could they have prepared better by thinking how to do some instruction during a week-long shutdown? At lease make the effort, send textbooks, emails, assignments, ask kids to read X,Y,Z. Just for performance's sake, if not for real, since they are so good at performing - just look at the head of MCPS rapping in videos. The lack of care and focus on actual instruction and academics is staggering. Snow days just expose the dysfunction of the whole system.

Emits teachers don’t use textbooks and they are online for the few they use. We have some teachers sending emails with assignments. They can but choose not to. |
If you have time to post here during the work day, you have time to watch your school aged kids. Put on the tv or iPad. |
I posted assignments. Zero were submitted yesterday. I’ll be shocked if any are done today or tomorrow. |
Came here to post this. The real issue right now is the state of bus stops (public & school). I drove from East Montgomery Village to Rockville and back on secondary (4 lane roads) where there are a lot of bus stops. Pretty much nine of the sidewalks are clear and consist of 1ft of snow-ice edged by a berm of 3ft plow snow-ice blocks. I passed three different work crews trying to chip out public bus stops with steel shovels and small snow cats. They were making very slow progress. There is literally no place for 10-20 kids to stand (or get to) several of the usual bus stops without being on the actual 4 lane road. If you want schools to open, go rally your neighbors to work on the normal paths to the stops. |

I just wish parents cared this much about their kid's education when school is actually in session. It only mysteriously seems to happen when schools are closed. |
No more snow is excellent news |
More likely that kids are too busy working with expensive tutors to remediate the basic skills you failed to properly teach |
| I hope teachers have at least caught up on grading and that semester grades are complete |
There is no way to submit them but mine did it.. we made sure if it. Some may be done. It was just an email and not all kids check email but luckily it went through to our email so it got done. |
You can get affordable tutoring online. We added extra sessions this week. Or, you can supplement at home, which is what we did in the early years. |
