No. It was meant sarcastically. When it was discovered that the shooter of the national guardsmen in DC was an Afghani national, Trump maligned all Afghanis and immediately halted immigration processing of Afghanis, including those who had assisted our troops in the war in Afghanistan. He also announced a "permanent pause" on migration from "all Third World countries."

Given that swift and extreme response, I’m just wondering what his reaction will be to finding out the RI shooter is a white American with an Anglo name.

The man police have in custody in connection with the Brown University mass shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Benjamin Erickson, three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told NBC News.

Public records show the man’s residence as of 2024 is an apartment in D.C., according to NBC News. He was also registered to vote in the District as recently as 2023. His party affiliation was listed as “statehood.”

Separate records show he was registered to vote in Wisconsin in 2020 and listed “military” under voter information.

According to a statement from Army Spokesperson, LTC Ruth Castro: “Benjamin W. Erickson was an Infantryman (11B) in the Regular Army from May 2021 to November 2024. He has no deployments and left the Army in the rank of specialist.”

No. But you need a lot more precision than "mentally ill" to identify those prone to mass shootings. Otherwise, you might as well be talking about people with the flu.

Students like Cho at Va Tech...his doctors, parents, and the school knew. He had no business being enrolled in school or living without strict supervision or longterm hospitalization. Same for individuals involved in recent stabbings. Same for Sandy Hook shooter. Etc, etc

This shooter drove from Wisconsin. He was not part of the student body.

+100 this is different than most of the school shootings, more akin to a targeted domestic attack

I fear we will see more of these types of things in coming months. It’s our political climate.
