It’s the anecdata experts that declare IT WAS IN THE HOUSE. Especially since some have insisted you have to be wallowing in it. Everyone who knows about the science of hantavirus understands it could have been in the house, but it’s more likely that it was elsewhere. Some people are just sick of misinformation and projection.

Same thing for the family situation. You have people making absolute statements based on their personal experiences instead of taking the known facts about the Hackman family and drawing some conclusions from that.

It’s a big deal if inside versus outside. I’ll leave it at that. But I just saw the property online. It explains a lot.

You add up the facts but it’s sad. Somehow mice got in the house.

Here is a pic of the house:

Known facts about Gene Hackman are that he was 95, had advanced demebtia, and lay on the floor dead for at least a week and no family members came to check on him.

Gene gave interviews and was open that he was physically and emotionally absent as a dad although he loved his kids
His kids that have spoken have said only nice things about him and about Betsy
Betsy appears to have been an excellent caretaker and was appeared to have been in good health
All parties have led quiet lives out of the spotlight (Gene was in the limelight years ago, but for decades he’s been deliberately out of the radar)
Neighbors says Gene and Betsy were even more reclusive post pandemic
Gene had Alz. He was last publicly recorded in April 2024 running errands. He was showing good mobility including appropriately negotiating a curb

People are in here posting that the kids were monsters, but it’s more likely that they simply were not very close and maybe they got monthly updates from Betsy. If Gene had deteriorated quite a bit, keeping to a very regular routine would be important. Betsy may not have wanted calls.

The circumstances were tragic and unlikely. We will never know exactly what Gene was experiencing or what he was trying to do. The constant attacks on the various parties are just projection and unwarranted condemnation.

There is one poster fixated on it being in the house. That's not what the experts think, so why don't we just ignore further posts on the subject?

I find it hilarious that one poster is so fixated on the fact that they must have had mice in the house. Imagine posting dozens of times about this fact.

And you are so convinced that they were not in the house, so much that you continue to counter each of my posts.

It was a huge sprawling house. Not seeing outside sheds that she just happen to visit, or huge piles of wood that she touched and caught it. Don’t see how she wandered thru the forest and picked it up there either.

Most of what I’m seeing is a huge indoor property. The mice got inside.

Furthermore, their house is surrounded by woods— surrounded! Mice on property a lot.
Anonymous
Furthermore, it was a luxury compound.

Not going to beat this down anymore because I liked the actor and they seemed like they were in their own little world. A little mouse or two or three got in.

She is truly bizarre.

From ABC News/Associated Press on 3/8:

“How Arakawa contacted hantavirus is unknown, but signs of rodents were found by investigators in some of the buildings on the couple's property, authorities said. Jarrell said it's possible Arakawa was showing symptoms of the virus, similar to flu symptoms, before she died.”

From LA Times:

Erin Phipps, New Mexico state public health veterinarian, said there were signs of rodent entry in some structures on the property.

As I shared earlier, there were several articles stating evidence of rodent entry on the properties, from different authorities, hence the need for pest control. So yes, there were mice in the house/compound.

Also, per CNN:

“The Centers for Disease Control has been notified of the case of hantavirus that appears to have led to Betsy Arakawa’s death last month, said New Mexico State Veterinarian Erin Phipps.

Hantavirus is what is known as a “notifiable disease” that, when diagnosed, must be reported by health providers to state or public health officials, according to the CDC.”

She should be one of those door-to-door pest control salespeople.

Sounds as if folks out there could benefit from such sales.
