I’m so disappointed in the folks making nasty comments here. We don’t agree with what the R politicians are advocating for and we are going to defeat in the elections.

After all that is over they are still Americans just like us. They have families and love their country. We need to take a step back and reunite on common ground.

Honestly, I quibble with this. I don’t think they do. I’m not going to dehumanize them, but they do want to uninstall democracy and install something on the theocracy-oligarchy-fascism spectrum of bad government. You and I have not left the common ground that we all agreed on; they have. I’m not helping move the Overton Window any further.

I'm 10:17 and I agree with you, although they THINK they love this country. But they clearly don't understand how it is supposed to work. They have been so conditioned to fear the boogeymen the GOP keep screaming about, they have come to believe that the authoritarian way will save them. This kind of thing just keeps happening over and over and over in human history.

PP, I probably could be your neighbor. I’ve been educated at a top all women’s college and attended a top 20 law school. I don’t own a gun and have no desire to do so. I live in a liberal suburb of DC and have raised successful children who attend/attended colleges that most DCUM posters dream for their kids and are who are young enough to still vote democrat, though growing disillusioned with them. For the first 20 years of my adult life I was a single issue pro choice voter. After that period ended I still voted D for another period of time, including for Hillary in the primary. I’m now pretty much a Republican though I wouldn’t call myself MAGA but you probably would since I’ll be voting for Trump. Since I generally don’t talk politics and am pretty easygoing, if you and I met over coffee you’d probably think I was a good person and might even be friends. The majority of my friends, afterall, are Democrats. And yes, they know I’m voting for Trump. I’ve not been conditioned to fear a boogeyman and I clearly understand how this country is supposed to work. The fact that people like you continue to demonize and insult people like me is just really sad.

Deporting people who shouldn’t be in our country isn’t ethnic cleansing.

Troll.

Two nights ago, the Republican mayor of Dallas gave a great speech to the RNC. I forgot his name but he’s a real person. He happens to be Black, but the first thing I noticed about him was that he’s a good politician and he makes sense. I hope to see more of him on the national stage.

A real person also chose that clip of a racist white frat boy mocking a Black woman and added audio that these college students should be celebrated. They didn't have to pick that clip to play at the RNC, but they chose to do so.

That element of the Republican party is still around.

Still around?

It is a core component of the party.

That is why traditional conservatives like Liz Cheney and Adam Kintzinger are no longer welcome. What is astonishing is the number of people who are boiled frogs and don't even realize it. And the rank and file "Trump Base" are just gluttons for punishment in terms of being lied to, being fleeced by fundraiasing and lord knows what the actual policy platform will do to those people, and they will still blame the immigrants, the brown people and everyone else for their woes.

These people are so dishonest.
And there is NOTHING unifying about allowing millions of illegal migrants into our country like Joe has done.

Good luck with your rounding up 10 million people(the majority in Texas and Florida) and putting them in concentration camps. Sure that will go over well. Doing that and eliminating social security and Medicare will throw this country in to a depression.

This convention has been fabulous. The speakers have been great and their messages are all about hope for the future. Having average Americans tell their stories has been wonderful.

The unity we are seeing with republicans stands in stark contrast to the disarray of the democrats who can’t seem to identify who their nominee will be. I guess the bright side is they have a month to figure that out.

Trump and Vance actually anger a lot of conservatives by being vocally supportive of Social Security. They’re economic populists and have more in common with Warren than Grover Norquist, from an economic perspective.

Vance even mentioned the failed Iraq war in his speech.

I think neoconservatism is dead, which is a good thing in my mind.

They won’t be in concentration camps. They will be in their countries of origin.

My aunt stayed with me for 4 days and we watched MSNBC instead of her typical Fox and had some actually really good discussions and find out we agree on a lot more things. She literally watches Fox News for 8 hours a day typically. Msnbc did not talk about illegals flooding the borders for 7 hours and she said it was actually refreshing to not have this sense of fear all day.
I know MSNBC leans left but I really don't know another reputable news station that is center.... I read plenty of things from the associated press and other centered new sources, but as far as TV goes, they're just is not a lot

What is it about Trump that appeals to you? Do you agree with his authoritarian views, or overlook them because other aspects of his platform are appealing?

No one insulted you. We disagree with you and we’re explaining why. DP.

Why not? It epitomizes the American spirit- to have a firearm ready whenever you want to use it.

Yes, Ron Johnson’s barn burner, the AR-15 giveaway and a clip of someone mocking a Black woman. All fabulous. All great. Message for hope. Message for future! Great wonderful! /s
