It's a non-binding, MOU that of course still needs lots of approvals from VA government and I would imagine a bunch of other various authorities. Best case, the teams could start playing in 2028....but do these things ever come on-line according to the best case?

Dude. It's done.

So, what am I missing? Why are you saying it's a done deal?

It has to go through the VA legislature, and I am sure some local NIMBYs will fight it, but ya, its done.

From DCUM? LOL.

DCUM will be calling for more housing on the arena site and cars banned from downtown.

Baristas don't fuel a major city economy and even the Starbucks are closing.

The Chinatown Starbucks closed in 2019, area was in decline even before covid.

They clearly didn’t think through many critical aspects of this project.

I know people like you and the x poster think this is clever, but NYC runs a giant outdoor grand slam tournament right next to LaGuardia and it’s nbd.

1) that is two weeks per year and yes you can hear the aiplane noise on TV
2) a music venue is there to listen to music. Having planes fly overhead that close to the runway kinda ruins the experience

Washington DC is more likely to convince the Commanders to pay double for a DC stadium than ever get statehood.

DC pols need to focus on the basics: crime, education, being business friendly. Forget the visions of statehood grandeur.

+ 1. It was never going to happen.

Getting carjacked and mugged ruins a concert experience. That's a big part of the issue.

It’s a total bipartisan win for VA. Why do you think Warner was there?

Exactly. I was saying I am supportive of Governor Youngkin. I've voted for Warner for years. I didn't vote for Youngkin in the last election but my views have now changed on him.

Sorry I misread you there.
If only cooperation like this could happen everyday.

Sadly, Leonsis was one of the only "business" voices in DC. Who else is there who might run?

VA, you showed us how it is done.

Statehood doesn't have anything to do with any of that. But yes, the DC Government needs to focus on the basics of governing.

DC needs to draft Tony Williams to run again for mayor now. NOW.

It will be too late to save the downtown arena, but hopefully not to late to reverse DC's steep decline under Bowser and the Woke SJWs on the Council.

But it's a non-binding MOU...is there something indicated in the press release or otherwise where you are attributing more significance to at least the official announcement? It even says that Leonsis is free to keep negotiating with DC.

I get that Bowser and the DC Council screwed this up royally...but money solves everything. They probably have to pony up more than $600MM now...and not saying they will budge on their current offer...but seems like the voices are loud enough she might.

The deal is not happening for DC. Bowser screwed it up royally. Downtown is the biggest loss, but we'll also lose Monumental's campus on the old St. E's site. It will all die a long and slow death.

Besides Pinto, none of them seem to have any interest in the above. Bowser had a rep as more pro-business but the handling of the Leonsis relationship this past year is honestly shocking. They did not stir themselves from their torpor until literally 12 hours before the VA press conference start.

Their $$$$/dem socialist of america "whole government" and "public health" approach to government is a failure, not just here but on the west coast as well. What prominent business people might even run? Truancy is 88% in some HS and when Mendo held a hearing on it, it started hours late, with no notification on the stream. They are beyond unprofessional. Why was Bowser off to Dubai when this was pending? Much of the Council have VERY thin CVs, for several it was a brief stint working for Racine, then $200k+ on Council. They lack experience, perspective and professional behavior. They don't even bother showing up at Wilson Building much of the time and Trayon Zooms in to hearings while DRIVING. Sure giving undivided attention there. They are an embarrassment but no idea who would even replace them that would not be worse.

It's clear that Geldart and Falcicchio did a lot of propping up of Bowser. The wheels have really come off and the illusion of competence is gone.

The inducement to build a $65 million dollar arena for the Mystics and GoGo and then rip them out of the community is a total BS move.

I am sorry, but Ted can take his teams and shove it.

This is nothing more than a real estate deal that DC could never match.

Forget the Caps and Wizards. DC will still have BLM Plaza!
