Oh wow - I know some nice, decent, normal dressing couples who like to go out on dates, sometimes to concerts, sometimes to restaurants, or whatever. They just seem to be enjoying their lives. Your post seems rather mean spirited.

Oh wow- you’re describing completely different people than pp.

veterans who served a few years in their 20s, but it's their defining life event until and after they die.

we get it. we can never give you enough benefits to compensate for your choice to join the military when you were 22 because you had jack else going on in your life.

Agree. I thought I was the only one. I don’t dare say it aloud.

- their kid’s activity or travel sport
- keto or other diet trends
- CrossFit people
- crafty/Pinteresty/Instagram-y crap
- their dogs
- Supervolunteering especially of the PTA variety

I mean, being pregnant is sort of an all encompassing thing so I give anyone a pass on it feeling like a defining trait while they are pregnant. When it gets annoying to me is when someone is pregnant for like 10 years, or talks about being pregnant for 10 years. At some point I am no longer interested in hearing about your water retention or how hard it is to sleep in the third trimester or how your 12.5 week appointment went.

But first babies? I get it. Pregnancy is weird. It's like living abroad for a year -- it's not a permanent change in who you are, but it's specific enough experience that you are going to be pretty consumed by it. But just as I would not be interested in hearing about your junior year abroad 10 years later, I also no longer care about your pregnancy experience at that point either. Move on.

A relative of mine made her entire identity around her pregnancies: photos of her with a painted belly, home births, eating the placenta, all that jazz. Started a birth-adjacent business and writes about it. It was over 20 years ago. It is her entire life.

Most of our family served in the infantry. We have noticed that often the people who enjoy loudly telling everyone they are a veteran didn’t actually do anything dangerous. They were in HR or they worked in food services etc. Thank you for your service! The pancakes were top notch.

We all have loved ones who have struggled with cancer - whatever it takes to get them through is fine. My sister is doing and posting a lot of odd stuff about dealing with cancer but it seems to be working - so I am happy.

People reach out for love and support in different ways - and the important thing is our loved ones feel supported and loved while dealing with cancer or other terminal illnesses …

People who only talk about podcasts

People who think they’re edgy because they smoke weed

People who don’t vote

People who can discuss everything on Netflix but not one book they recently finished
