In what ways would you be considered trashy?

Not married to my longtime partner with whom I have kids and own a house

Shop at Walmart for groceries, Kohl's and Old Navy for clothes

Live in far suburbs (DCUM trashy I guess)

Graduated from a Big State U top party school

Have vacationed in Myrtle Beach...no plans to return anytime soon, but can't rule out going back at some point

That's just my adult life though, childhood and upbringing is another story altogether.

I'm not worried about it. I'm just curious as to why people have an issue with drinking out of the can. No one seems to have any explanation.

There really isn't one like pretty much this entire thread. People's definition of trashy here are so random. And don't get me started on the "anything remotely not associated with UMC/wealthy is trashy" sentiment found throughout this thread. Some DCUMers have a huge inferiority complex about social class and they don't realize it makes them look desperate vs. classy.
BTW, From a random google search, the definition of trashy:adjective. tastelessly showy. synonyms: brassy, cheap, flash, flashy, garish, gaudy, gimcrack, loud, meretricious, tacky, tatty, tawdry tasteless.

A lot of people on DCUM seem to have petite bourgeoisie tendencies. From this thread, there seems to be a lot of "My God, what will the neighbors think?!!!" (to which the answer should be, who cares what the neighbors think?). For a supposedly educated and well-traveled group of people, there is a surprising tendency of provincialism and parochialism.

I mean, there are people here who are scandalized by two piece bikinis at the pool, and tattoos on people. But the disapproval about drinking out of a soda can is head-scratching to me.

What if the well travelled and educated group of people are 300lbs?

Morbid obesity is trashy.

This is why I rarely leave the house anymore. I'm losing weight but if I was trashy to you at 270 lbs, I'm really not interested in hanging out with you if I lose 100+. You've shown your true colors, and they aren't kind.

People may consider them trashy, but they are beautiful. One won tattoo of the day at a convention. Another has been featured in a magazine.

And I've spent 5 figures on getting this body art. And its been money well spent.

But people will see them as trashy no matter how beautiful they are

Understandably the homeowners don't want the detergents/chemicals/oils/chlorine from the swimsuit fabric in
their hot tub - it has nothing to do with being 'rapey' is that even a word?

We have a similar rule for hot tub use in our home. It has nothing to do with sex, its about cleanliness. Have you
ever maintained a hot tub? Unless cared for properly and the water treated, a hot tub is the breeding ground for a
multitude of bacteria and organisms. Those bubbles you see floating on the surface of a hot tub are body oils, lotions,
and other chemicals/detergents that are carried into the bubbling hot water. A showered "naked" person is cleaner
than a person wearing a swimsuit. We have a shower near the hot tub for people to use.

Guests in our home understand our hot tub use policy, and if they feel differently, they are under no
obligation to get in the hot tub. They are welcome to enjoy the pool and sauna wearing their swimsuits.We have
no children living in our home, and 99.9% of our guests are child free as well. This is about adults being adults.

We empty, scrub clean, and put the chemicals in ours regularly. Why wouldn't you?

We use our hot tub as a fully clothed family, only - very rarely do guests want to use it - but if they do - swimsuits only!

To answer your question, we are living life outside the comfort zone of our neighbors and many people on DCUM.

Our hot tub is drained regularly and cleaned. Our water treatment protocols are stringent and documented. Just cause we prefer to hot tub naked is our preference - our home, our rules.

Do you have a privacy fence?

Not only do we have a a privacy fence, our hot tub is positioned so no one can voyeur us from over the fence, from an adjacent property. Even nosy neighbors with drones can’t see what goes on in our hot tub!

When I think of people who look at tattoos as some sort of signifier of bad character, I think of a prissy Baby Boomer woman, or my dad going on about how pierced ears on men will make people think you're gay. I just have to roll my eyes.

I mean, one in three members of Gen X have tattoos, as do 40% of Millennials. You'd think they would be unremarkable by now.

Well, I can say that although I still display some redneck tendencies I have definitely broken the cycle. I’m also married to an awesome person who has had a similar journey and has a great sense of humor about it.
