The video is of the coach my daughter's team is playing against soon. Take a listen. I can't believe this guy is allowed to coach an ECNL team much less a youth team at all.

Read the comments for some context. The Match Fit player is the one fouled. Full video is in the comments.

What context? The video doesn't change what the guy said. It tells you maybe the reason he said it, but does it excuse the words?

The coach is encouraging the player that just got fouled really hard to defend herself and not take that kind of punishment. The video was edited by the old fired Matchfit Director. I would want my coach telling my daughter the same thing.

+1. Many kids need to go in harder than they do. This is especially true for girls where there can be a big disparity in the level of aggression. Not committing to the tackle is the best way to get injured. Going in hard is not the same as playing dirty. The coach was not screaming at his player to "stud her", or "go for her knees". He was just telling his player to "hit her hard" which is good, solid advice - especially if the player in question is getting knocked around by her opposite number who is going in a lot harder.

Yeah, I watched twice. I thought I missed something. Hit her hard does not equal cheap shot.

So at your next game, the coach tells his player to hit your daughter hard. She proceeds to do so. Your daughter tears her ACL. She may never play the same again. You ok with that?

ACLs are not torn by hits.

My kids know when a body is coming because it’s legal if they are close enough to play the ball.

The problem is coaches need to educate parents/players that soccer is a contact sport. Don’t just run into it.

ACLs are absolutely torn by hard contact hits. Just reading through this topic and can’t believe some of these comments. Soccer is a contact sport, for sure, but keep it clean. Instructing a kid to play hard is very different then telling a kid to hit another player hard. Only unskilled players and coaches need to play this way.

Nonsense. You are the worst type of soccer parent who understands nothing of playing a physical sport. I used to encounter parents like you all the time on the sideline of my daughters' games. Every time their daughter fell over they would scream at the poor ref that a foul had occurred and " protect the children". And yes - injuries do happen in contact sports - but telling a kid to hit harder - especially when she is being knocked around by a kid who is playing significantly harder than she is - is well within the bounds of acceptable. If you want a 0% chance of an ACL injury then enroll your daughter in knitting class. "Hit hard" is not the same as "Play dirty" or "Go for her knees" or "Injure her" - and this is especially ture when the advice ios being given to a young lady who is clearly being muscled out of the game.

There is nothing wrong with this whatsoever.

We are talking about soccer here, not rugby or football. Soccer is about making skilled tackles and not "hitting hard". If you want your kid hitting others, I suggest you have them change sports. Usually when a player hits someone on purpose in soccer, they are given and yellow card or a red card depending how dangerous of a play the "hit" was. Does it happen? Yes. Do coaches ask their players to hit other players whether it's soft or hard? Absolutely not. Not even in High School, lol.

Now, go back to Jersey. You are not smart enough to hang out on DC Forums.

You don’t understand soccer

The whole video that was posted was so sketchy. It is stills and then statements from people we can't see who could be reacting to anything over the course of an entire game.

I agree — I hear "hit it hard." People should be careful to listen to these types of things without reading the captioning first. Suggestion can be very powerful.

Tell that to Sergio Ramos or half the Italian team.

Nice, I'm going to go out and tell my kids to hit their opponents hard this weekend! We disregard every family on the opposing teams! Play dirty because fundamental defense and tackling is for weak players!!!

-Sarcasm

Oh please Soccer gurus, tell me how a coach telling players hitting hard on the soccer when playing defense is a fundamental part of the game, especially for U13 girls?

There is big difference between being told to play physical vs. hitting other players hard.

You don’t understand soccer. Knock them off the line, you have to hit them hard.

Contact is part of the game just like basketball and you need to hit someone hard.

I just think at this age it goes from fake soccer to real soccer and parents don’t understand contact.

The girl in blue was in the right. Not only a good, hard hit, but a clean hit.

So to review:

1. The PDA girl injured herself in the process of fouling the Matchfit defender who had the ball. The collision happened so fast there was likely no ill intent on the part of either young player.
2. The coaches and parents did not have the benefit of slow mo instant replay. Things got a little heated on the sidelines.
3. The comments of the Matchfit coach were ambiguous. When he said Hit it harder next time, he may have been telling his player to kick the ball harder next time.
4. The PDA coach suggests that the Matchfit Coach has a history of making questionable comments. (No one has really elaborated on this point yet.)
5. Girls soccer is a contact sport. Players can get hurt even at U13.
6. Anytime you are at a soccer game you must assume that anything you say or do is being videoed, so be careful!

You're a Neanderthal. That girl made no attempt for the ball and made no attempt to pull up. The ball was off the Matchfit players foot before the PDA girls even got there. Not only was she overly aggressive she was also late.
