My worst parenting nightmare happened

This. We use towels, easier to wash. Glad you are all ok. Take Aleve or Advil with food so you will be less sore tomorrow.

Really? This is probably my very last of concerns when thinking about catastrophic things. Only because the most likely outcome would be someone would intercept kid and try to find you then call police. While super scary and it may take awhile, you are highly likely to be reunited with no harm done.

Having lost a child in public, I can tell you it is scary as f*ck. Found him 30 mins later and everything was fine but it was the worst day of my life.

I’m 45 and still remember how terrible it felt when we lost my little brother. Several times lol.

Agree. My 3 yo disappeared in a Costco and I literally guarded the exit while my husband and older child searched for her. We found her, but so so scary.

You literally guarded it huh?

And get yourself an instant pot! No open flames and it switches to warm once it’s done.

+1 I never leave stove on when taking a bath even when alone. It’s just basic safety you turn the stove off if you have something else to attend to and then come back to resume cooking. Also many people are anyway glued to phone but try to keep phone near you when alone with kids.

Thankfully the baby was cradled in my arms and was fine and I narrowly missed slamming my head into the side of the tub. Dc2 was in the tub and DC1 was drying off. Added to all of this I had food on the stove as well. I can’t believe how close I was to passing out from the pain (hit my tailbone super hard).

I have told my oldest DC who is 6 how to either call daddy on my cell phone or go get a neighbor if something happened to me but I don’t know if she would remember. Plus I have no idea what would have happened the baby or kid in the tub. Ughhh how terrifying!

Teach her to call 911

Well I didn’t figuratively guard it. I stood there and made sure no one left with my child. So, yes.

Teach your kids to call 911 and their( and yours) full name and address as well as number of other parent and next door neighbor. Also, you do not cook dinner and bathe childen simultaneously!

Pbitbin writing and put where they can see this.

I had some really steep stairs in my old townhouse, and was always worried about slipping and falling down the stairs. And despite being careful, it did happen once while carrying one of my kids (when he was about 6m old). Luckily I mostly just turned into me sliding down the stairs on my butt. Scary and a bit painful, although my kid wasn’t phased at all.

The comments that she shouldn't have more kids and not cook while giving the kids a bath are extreme. All mothers juggle. Always good to reevaluate if you feel you are doing too much, but she was just sharing a story. We all have our worst case parenting fears....

I taught my five year old to use facetime from her ipad after we once almost left her alone in the house accidentally. It is a good back-up plan.

+1 You're setting yourself up for trouble. After a few mistakes that could have been worse I've ingrained: if I leave the kitchen, I turn off the stove. If I'm really back in a minute like I think I will be, I can turn it back on with no real difference. And if I'm not back in a minute like usually happens, things are safer.

I'm so sorry OP. Glad everyone is OK.

My worst parenting nightmare is a bit darker - it is my kid becoming an addict. such pain, and so little a parent can do for them. My oldest is only 3, so... maybe I need to think shorter term!

How does that happen

I was rushing, for no real reason other than I was a few minutes behind a time that I had given but had no import, and tripped as I was going down the first step. I held on the the handrail hoping to right myself, and was not able to arrest tge momentum, and instead went hurdling down the stairs backwards. Bad news. 2 yrs later i am basically okay but its taken til now.

Slow down a little. It will be okay.
