Different PP hopping back on. Like 15:37, I have just come off a really bad constipation episode. It's not enough to make me quit, because the weight loss is going so well, but it was not a joke. My Calibrate doctor suggested adding aloe vera juice by Lily of the Desert to my daily Natural Calm magnesium citrate, which I've taken forever anyway because I have a history of constipation. I had to add Miralax last night because I was so backed up. Ugh.
I've also had continuing nausea off and on, and have to continue to take Zofran. Starting tomorrow is my sixth week. I don't love the side effects and I don't love feeling icky -- truthfully this last week has made me feel like quitting. Keto/low carb has worked for me before, but honestly with a spouse and two teens at home who just won't eat keto with me, it's hard to maintain. I'm just going to keep going for now with Wegovy, and see how I do staying on top of side effects more proactively. |
Chiming in to say that I took saxsenda briefly and while it slightly curbed my appetite, the side effects were awful. I had terrible mood swings and felt extremely angry and emotional. Not worth it. |
NP here. I just started semaglutide yesterday and I'm really excited. I get it through a weight loss clinic. I'm titrating up from 0.25 mg to the max dose I can tolerate. So far (one day) I have had no side effects. Will keep you posted. |
Good luck. Definitely don't be shy to talk to the clinic about managing side effects. I take Zofran as needed for nausea and I have to stay on top of fiber, magnesium, etc. for constipation, but so far everything has been worth it for the weight loss. I'm really hoping though that it will actually lower my set point and I don't have to take it forever. |
I get my semaglutide from an online Canadian pharmacy called UBACARE. They currently have a promotion going on as well, $249.99 for a box of Ozempic and $399.99 for a box of Saxenda (5 Pens). I have been a customer with them since January and their service is phenomenal. They also offer free telemed consults so I was able to get a valid prescription when I did not have time to go into my doctors office. |
Curious for updates from posters here. How has your experience been? Side effects?
I’m a PP who was out in it by my doctor. I’ve taken it mostly regularly for 12 weeks and lost 17-18 pounds. Every week I wonder if it will be my last—the side effects continue to be AWUL for me: endless constipation I have to treat, nausea, vomiting, exhaustion and low energy. I’be heard it gets better, but man I’m. It sure how long I can wait. |
I'm 10/11 11:56 at the top of the page. I've done 8 weeks on 0.5 mg and 1 week on 1 mg -- today will be my next 1 mg.
I haven't had vomiting, thank god, and although I did experience nausea Zofran has taken care of that and it's never been as bad as the first dose. I have to stay on top of constipation with Natural Calm magnesium daily as well as a dose of Miralax about every other to every third day, but I've never not had constipation so it's something I have to do anyway. What dosage are you on? Did you ramp up gradually? The usual regimen is 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.7, 2.4 month by month. I had to jump right in at 0.5 because of the shortages, but I was also happy to stay there for an extra month to try to get the side effects under better control. I'll probably stay on 1.0 for another month once this month's worth is done as well just to not go further than I can handle. |
PP with severe nausea and vomiting—I’ve been on it for 10 weeks and am still at .25. I tried to go up to .5 at one point and had to take a week off I was so ill. I had hyperemesis during pregnancy, so maybe I’m just really sensitive to hormones that cause nausea? Also, the constipation is AWFUL—requires suppositions (sorry) to address.
How much have you lost since you’ve been on it? I’m around 17/18 lbs, but have gone 48 hours without any food intake a few times because I’ve been so ill. |
Also, I take Zofran a couple times a day almost every day. ![]() |
I'm the PP at 10/27/2021 12:01
I've been taking the drug 2.5 weeks now and I've already lost almost 10 pounds! The only side effect I've experienced is constipation, which I'm addressing with magnesium. I will probably have to incorporate MiraLax too. But other than that, I've been great. I've had two doses at 0.25 and one dose at 0.5. I'm really happy with the results and how it's completely changed my eating habits. I'm genuinely sorry for those who have had bad side effects. That really stinks. |
I'm the OP of the original post, and I started semaglutide 2.5 weeks ago too! I'm on the .25 dose now and have not titrated up yet. I have had no side effects, but am a little nervous about moving up to .5 - did you feel a huge difference between .25 and .5? I am moderately hungry at .25 but no real side effects. I've lost about 5 lbs in 2.5 weeks. |
I'm on week 6 of the calibrate program: 4 weeks of .25 and last week was my first dose of .5 ozempic.
I have a lot to lose (starting weight 250) but so far I've lost 21 pounds. I was really worried about the side effects but haven't had anything major. There was one night early on ,I think the 2nd week, where I had coffee in the afternoon and got the most upsetting burps/bubbling stomach hours later. I really thought I would throw up but didn't. Since then I've avoided anything like coffee on an empty stomach and haven't had anything like that happen again. I know it's early but this drug is a miracle for me. I don't obsess about food like I used to (I used to be thinking of what I'd eat for dinner while eating lunch). It's upsetting to think about how much mental energy I used to expend, obsessing about food and trying to control myself around it. I like the calibrate program. It's moving slowly at the beginning, focusing on hydration for the first month, sleep the second. I like my coach,I meet with her for 15 minutes every other week which is just the right amount of personal input I want. I tried doing noom briefly and really couldn't stand all the messages from the coaches. I'm really amazed at ozempic though. It's like I've had a brain transplant. No more snacking at night, etc. I just don't think about food, and when I do get hungry I don't have these uncontrollable cravings any more and can make good food choices. Is this what normal people feel like? I'm hoping this year 'metabolic reset' will help because I really think there was something haywire with the way I obsessed about food. I'm sure it's a combo of mental and physical things at play, but if I have to take this the rest of my life I will, it's been really positive for me and the first time I feel hopeful about things. |
Do these drugs just curb appetite? Or is it something more? |
For those of you with nausea, reddit anecdotally reports that leg injections seem best for reduced side effects. |
I did not get any side effects when I increased my dose. I noticed I could go longer between meals, so I was hungry less. That's all. |
