Biles out

Ms. Biles was constantly called the "Greatest Of All Time" and I get how that's a blessing, but it also must be a curse. Sports are supposed to be enjoyable activities at some level.

I’m not throwing shade and truly wish her the best, but she did wear a goat on the should of her uniform for the Olympic trials.

I cannot imagine the stress. Even if she is the greatest of all times, it is very hard to not feel extreme pressure. Heck, I have to host my monthly webex for 200 people today and just hoping the technology works is enough to cause me anxiety first thing in the morning.

So the two "goats" media shoved down our throats for the last year and hyped beyond belief ended up cracking under pressure? Maybe because they're both media fabrications with impostor syndrome.

How awful
For her

The NY Post is hardly the most reliable source. The NY Times and news agencies are calling it a medical issue.

Mental issues are medical issues. I would be surprised if it’s not something mental. I feel awful for her.

No one is disputing that mental issues are medical issues. What is in dispute is people jumping to conclusions when nothing has been officially released.

In the biggest upset for the United States at the Tokyo Games, Simone Biles withdrew from the gymnastics team competition after it had started on Tuesday, handing Russia’s squad a path to the gold medal and ending American domination of the event for more than a decade.

Biles, Team U.S.A.’s star, said she pulled out of the event because she wasn’t in the right place mentally to perform the difficult and often dangerous skills she is known for, after feeling so much pressure to be successful. She had been struggling with the stress of being the greatest gymnast in history, she said, and outside expectations were just too hard to combat.

She's struggled with injuries this year, that level of gymnastics is extremely hard on your body and almost all the elite athletes battle injuries as a result.

But the reality is also that while a prominent and well publicized one, the Olympics are just another competition and you don't risk permanent injury for a single competition.

it's coming from Osaka, she said the precedent and frankly got A LOT of positive encouraging press for dropping out of tennis competitions for mental health reasons.

New trend in America.

It looked like a tamper tantrum after screwing up to me. If any of us walk out of our jobs after "anxiety" or "pressure" we're fired. But to a coddled arrogant multi-millionaire 24-yo athlete we have to understand? Please.

Exactly ! Can't be a goat if you can't compete.

Way to go media.

Meanwhile Wash Post keeps churning out articles on how Biles is going to rework USA gymnastics so everyone looks like her and is Black. How gymnastics is racist and too many whites and not welcoming to Black but that's all going to have to change.

I hope Biles doesn't read that garbage.

What are you talking about? Women gymanstics gold medal winners are literally household names. Nadia. Mary Lou. Gabby.
McKayla Maroney is not impressed with your post.

I wonder if they send her home or let her compete in the individuals. Hopefully the former- if she can't be a teammate, she shouldn't be allowed to compete period

No world class athlete the last 100 years didn't have such pressure and chatter. And they stepped up, shut out the loser peanut gallery, and did their business.

If she doesn't get it together, fine make her routine easier, and get back out there I suspect many many more US athletes will start doing the Mental Health quitting.

Wait til they have kids, no mental health quitting then! Heck, the family courts don't even care and will give a mental health abuser 50% custody.

And 2021 days are way easier and less risky than the Oregon Trail days....

+1. I'm not sure I've seen an Olympic gymnastics event in full since I was a kid, and I know the names of lots of female American gymnasts. They're huge stars.

I really do think she WAS being a stellar teammate. She didn't have it. She wanted them to at least get silver and that might not have happened if she had stayed in it. I think it was a good team move for her to step aside. I was pretty shocked to see it, though, I have to admit.
