New York City will require all municipal workers to be vaccinated against the coronavirus by the time schools reopen in mid-September or face weekly testing, Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to announce on Monday morning, according to a city official.

Last week, Mr. de Blasio’s decision announced a similar mandate for public health care workers — part of an effort to speed up vaccinations as the city faces a third wave of coronavirus cases driven by the spread of the Delta variant.

The new requirement would apply to roughly 340,000 city workers, including teachers and police officers. The Sept. 13 deadline, when about a million students are set to return to classrooms, shows the importance of the reopening of schools for the city’s recovery and for Mr. de Blasio’s legacy

de Blasio has really been a standard bearer for reopening schools. He deserves a ton of credit.

And then there’s Bowser who has repeatedly demonstrated that she is in way over her head and has no business being mayor of a major city

The testing option for adults should be temporary or limited to medical exemption. It costs time and money.

The adults are the ones bringing it into the building. The adults are the ones that matter in regards to testing (applies to parents as well).

I agree -- make the vax mandatory and then we can avoid the time and cost of testing these anti-vaxxers.

WHAT is the argument for it not being mandatory? We know it can be mandated.

They aren't arguing against it right now. People continue to disseminate false info on here.

Ok then back to the point: What's the argument for NOT having mandatory vaccines of teachers/staff?

Then why won't Bowser mandate it like de Blasio? Who would it upset if she did?

I mean, there wasn't any anti-union sentiment in 6 pages; perhaps read it before you make statements. Mostly people are talking about 1) whether there would be a mandate, and 2) who has the legal authority to make that mandate. Not everyone desiring mandatory vaccinations for teacher/staff is an anti-union person.

I did, and that was why I referenced the first 6 (out of 7) pages.

Anti-vaxxers in Alabama are all mouth breathing troglodytes who are needlessly putting themselves and everyone around them at risk but anti-vaxxer teachers in DCPS have extenuating circumstances that must be respected? Sorry. Doesn’t work that way.
