No lamb shuttle bus next uear

When we accepted a spot we were told that the SD campus was a permanent location. We have since moved to accommodate the Kingsbury location, but the people who are saying the administration made it clear that SD was temporary are simply wrong (or joined the school later).

I’ve heard there is one angry LAMB parent that comes on DCUM and posts multiple times as different posters…but still keeping their kids at LAMB. I also heard that some waitlisted parents come on to DCUM to bash schools so they can move up waitlist. I’m not saying that’s necessarily the case here, but instead of reading an anonymous board, go check out the school and ask to talk to real parents. We are generally happy to chat about our experience, good and bad.

I don’t believe you’ve really talked to anyone in the SD community. Nobody’s happy about this. The school had a plan for a shuttle and now they gave it up.

You also clearly haven’t met the parents of older kids who were not told from Day one about a plan to move. We were told 3 years ago but earlier than that people were lied to. It goes to show that better options and the ability to lottery into them are few and far between that some families have hung on through thick and thin (pretty drastic thin) and yet they’re still not valued at all.

It was widely discussed in 2016/17 (when my child was at SD) that the ultimate goal was to consolidate all the campuses and that the SD campus would not be a long term option. The administration at the time spoke frequently about the benefits (with regard to the ability to terminate) of the SD lease. We moved campuses for 17/18 because, in part, it was evident at that such a move would be inevitable. If you had asked me then, I would have presumed the SD campus would be closed by 2021.

I am not talking about 2016/2017. I am talking about earlier than that which is when they changed their tune.

Perhaps you don't remember the old admin very well, but they were shady as s**t.

100% to this. SD was always meant to be a temporary location until they found their permanent, one-campus location. Apparently, some parents didn't seem to know this, but plenty of us did know this and made plans accordingly. And they have worked to accommodate families close to SD to the extent that it is reasonable for them to do so from a learning perspective. They opened an Upper Elementary classroom for kids who were at WR but lived closer to SD. They really want all their Upper Elementary students together in one building for learning purposes, but made this accommodation for SD families. Not all families took advantage of it though and continued the commute to WR, knowing this was the main location for upper elementary classrooms.

No, at one point the plan was not to have SD be temporary or to consolidate, it was to follow a "small school" model and have 2-3 small schools. At least, so we were told. However, the funding model in DC drove that idea into the ground - it was obvious that they could not financially run small schools since all money is attendance based and yet you have only, say, one art teacher. Not sure when that became obvious. Prior admin also was very, very dismissive of parents - even more so than admin now.

I don't think most folks realize that a school like LAMB which does not backfill and also has low attrition and three year class groupings is a little different. It feels more like a family, but a dysfunctional one.

When has LAMB ever been at a location for more than seven years?

I am the PP and I don't think this debate will ever have a right answer. I certainly don't ever remember this being the case and I have been at LAMB for 10+ years. But I agree that nothing can be put past the previous administration to say whatever was needed.

Ha, look at that. I agree that anyone who bought a house or made permanent decisions based on the SD location since 2017 was in denial. Whether they chose to believe an administrator with a history of lying is on them.

There are two different points here. One is that pre-2017, the admin lied to many families about the SD campus not closing.

The second is that now that we've all accepted reality, there are still ways to both help right that wrong and make it less likely that Ward 5 and beyond families are able to stay at LAMB. It would not have been hard for the current admin to do what other schools that have closed and moved have done, out of courtesy if nothing else, but in a self-serving way, to prevent a sudden change in the school's demographics which amounts to a whiter, richer school.

Again, charters don’t care about you. Especially not the charter with the longest wait list in the city. Deal with it or leave, those are your choices.

LAMB doesn’t have the longest WL in the city.

Totally agree with PP. Previous admin was extremely shady, but honestly new admin is kinda similar.

The writing was clearly on the wall. They are just using the pandemic excuse as a cover. Watch, no shuttle for the following year either, whatever excuse they will use, we shall see.

Heard from who? Is the admin bad mouthing parents again?

I’m glad that you are able to enjoy the campus and “don’t mind” the commute. Not everyone is as privileged as you.

Also FWIW there are dozens of people on this thread pointing out the lies that the previous admin and the current admin have told themselves.

Really interested to know who the “one angry parent” is when so many families are affected. Or is it people blaming one person (who????) so they don’t have to think about how many low income at risk children they just kicked out of the school?

As another poster pointed out, the school is keeping SD open because they have to. There is nothing “nice” about it.
