EDP and NCSL are better with pro/rel. CCL only had a few top teams and then a bunch of mediocre to middling and you couldn't get rid of them...so you played the same ones over and over again. It was too exclusionary and sterile.

It's actually pretty on point. The Super League was allegedly cooked up by Perez and the American owners at ManU, Liverpool and Arsenal. It's also financed by JP Morgan which gives it extra American flare. To say that it is a wholly American idea is untrue, of course, given the involvement of all the other clubs and owners, but to say that the American narrative is "idiotic" is not in line with the events at hand or ownership breakdown. Glazers and Fenway will likely be pushed out and that will be that. ManU fans are pissed and rallies are already planned in protest. Doesn't seem that your brand of business went over well overseas. If these clubs are bleeding money, they should budget better. Stop paying $100M for aging players. Whatever they do, they're in for a PR nightmare and it'll be interesting to see where support goes because these owners are a piece of work.

The agnellis led it. See the reaction of the champions league to juventus and the retreat of the English clubs from this idea and it tells you that the theory above is 100 percent nonsense. And you are out of your mind and league if you think if Morgan as an American entity at this point. JPM is a truly global entity. I am pretty sure they don’t think of themselves as American at all.

Henry loves baseball but has had similar disasters with the Red Sox, so this narrative doesn't entirely work. He is very bad at managing people and being a boss. The list of people who have left the Red Sox front office feeling misunderstood, mistreated, and suffering from a lack of communication is as long as my arm. Him letting Jurgen Klopp flounder out there answering questions about the Super League and dealing with the media while he hid in silence like a coward is exactly his modus operandi and he did it tons of times with the Sox.

He is probably sitting in his house in Boca Raton bewildered by the backlash right now, because he can't read people and doesn't know how to treat them properly or talk to them. This made sense in his own head, so why wouldn't it work, he thinks?

All of the club owners share responsibility, but the basic model of a closed system is the model of American sports (NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLS). As an economy, the United States is a free market, but monopolies thrive in American sports and they get around the antitrust laws by forming a single entity (essentially franchise like system). In Europe, the situation is reverse, there is a lot more regulation of the industries, but in terms of sports, everything is based on a free market and open competition.

Precisely. None of the teams in US pro sports can be pushed out. They stay and are not threatened with ejection for failure to perform. I'm sure the US owners of overseas clubs that it was crazy that Premiership would allow that risk.
