She is not well in the head. She was trying to say SHE was triggered by seeing low-sugar options at the front of the store before she got to the full-sugar options further in, but instead implied it's triggering for EVERYONE in LA because diet culture is so prevalent there. She's really just ... not well in the head. I'm hoping she gets her feet under her and doesn't go the way of Amanda Bynes.

How is Amanda Byrnes now, if anyone knows? I remember her difficulties very well, but had totally forgotten about her. (I know I can Google, but DCUM has a unique perspective )

Amanda is like six years older, was never nearly as successful as Demi, and last I read was engaged to some random loser she met at AA.

It's clear she went off the deep-end because her ex Wilmer just had a baby. A gal as rich as she never has to work again and just be a good mom. Instead she's idle all day and driving herself insane.

Oof

As a person who also had an eating disorder, this isn’t triggering to me. I’m more triggered by friends bombarding me with “try intermittent fasting” emails. Maybe this is triggering to her, but she needs to think realistically. This is not about her. I think when it comes to “triggers” people need to work on understanding that their emotions are valid, but not every emotion is rooted in reality.

This.

She needs to realize that while her feelings matter to her, the rest of the world doesn’t need to bend to her. This is next level millennial navel gazing.

She's like 35, and looks like my 15 year old niece trying to be edgy.

Amanda Bynes had her own popular show and was in several movies (she was the lead in at least 3 or 4 movies). How was she not as successful as Demi?

She’s focused on a symptom not the disease. If she wants to change the diet culture she needs to take a look at her industry no her part in perpetuating unrealistic standards. They’re all selling something that doesn’t exist. To attack a small local business is stupid and bullying. She could have made the same point without calling out a specific business. She sucks.

I had a friend from college who struggled with alcoholism after. I finally distanced myself because everything set off her rage. I could totally see her doing this irrational diatribe about a froyo place enraging her due to sugar free options. I think after damaging the bran enough you just can't reason and the frontal lobes get so messed up anger is triggered easily.

Why are you insulting this person? Byrnes did not even insert herself in this conversation. Do you just sit around and make mean comments about how people look? This person has managing mental health issues the best that she can. Why attack her for her looks? Have you ever been made fun of for your looks? It hurts.

What a bunch of “I’m sorry if you’re offended, but ME ME ME ME”

On the other hand, it's useful to have a discussion about who benefits from sugar free (diabetics only) and who can be hurt with artificial sweeteners (the rest of the world). So she may not be as addled as you think she is...

Without debating the truth of what you said, I think we can agree the vast majority of people are NOT harmed just by a store selling products with these artificial sweeteners. Nobody is forced to buy/eat them.

What? With her mental and drug issues you think she should be a mom?

The Bigg Chill is not prominently featuring sugar-free options for diabetics, come on. They are featuring them for the many, many people embracing a healthier lifestyle and diet culture in LA. She’s not completely wrong.

Yes, but it was possible to riff on this issue/open a discussion on social media WITHOUT INVOLVING one particular business because this shit is everywhere.
