I think it's just this year that I am confused.

OP here,

I still haven't gotten an answer to what a "club" is in soccer. I am completely confused by this word. Can someone explain it to me?

Like I thought MSI was a "club" but then someone said that Fusion plays "in" MSI?

Yeah this is confusing. The clubs are basically like teams. Bethesda has teams, Potomac has teams, fusion has teams etc. each team plays in a league. The league could be MSI or Sam Select, etc. Go with the club first and they will help you figure out the league. You need to be on a team first before you can enter a league.

+1
It's like how baseball teams play in Major League Baseball, some in the American League, some in the National, etc. Clubs have teams within them. Those teams play in leagues.

Time for you to call the club and speak with a coach.

So, I'm still unclear what a club is, so I don't know what club I'd call. I keep using MD Fusion 10 as an example, because someone named it in my other thread, but I don't actually know that I want them, because I think they are in Potomac, which seems really far away. I also don't know if they're a club, or they're a team that plays in a club called MSI or maybe SAM?

I feel like I'm really in over my head on this. Here's what I have:

A 10 year old who has played a lot of rec soccer, and a lot of pick up soccer, and seems quite good at it, who would like to start playing soccer more seriously, and who particularly likes playing GK.

I'd like to find him a way to play more often than 1 practice 1 game, in a situation where he's challenged on the field, and there is good coaching, and nice teammates. My primary goals would be friends, happiness, and exercise, but I think he'd probably also like to play in high school.

I'd like him to have some kind of GK training.

I'd like it to be as close to my home, which is in Silver Spring as possible.

I'd like to try to stay under $3K for the year, including travel and GK training, and maybe a week or two of summer camp.

I would not like to spend every weekend traveling, because I'm effectively a single parent, and he's not an only child, but maybe a tournament or two a season would be OK.

So, with that wish list, I think I want classic not travel? So, is MSI the "club" I call? Or is a "club" a specific team? If I'm supposed to call a specific team's coach, where do I find those numbers? Is there a way to have a general idea of where teams practice before I start calling?

Ignore the jerks on this thread (one reason we love Fusion), and email the address on this page

+1 and say what you have said here. Specifically mention you have a kid who can play goalie on 2010. Trust me.
