Oh my god . You sound like you want/need to have your hand held on everything in life. Here is your homework are you ready? This Sunday I want you you to go SoccerPlex get there about 8:00 am.. There you will look for teams around your sons age. Approach some parents and ask them which club they are with and are they happy, cost, communication, development, etc. After the game try to talk to the coach. You might not have much time to talk as he may have another game to coach. Doing this will get you almost all the info you need.

I forgot to add that MSI might be your best option as they have 3 levels of play: Rec, Classic (Select Soccer) & Academy (Travel Soccer). Ask them about their entire program, how to show for a practice session with a team. I recommend you ask about your DC joining a practice with with one or more Classic teams and one Academy Team so you can gauge which team is the best fit for your DC. Good luck.

OP, please don’t follow this suggestion. Soccerplex does not allow spectators and you would also have to fill out the medical form. Also, due to COVID, people might not want to talk to you. Do what I said and call up MSI. No need to ask anymore questions on this forum. MSI can provide you with any info you need. MSI serves the entire MoCo. Call them unless for some reason you don’t like MSI.

Not OP, but is wandering around soccer fields polling random parents really an efficient way for this to work?

Better suggestion. Have your kids talk to other kids at school and go with the team your kid suggests. At least he’ll end up on a team with friends.

I see why you’re confused.

MSI is a club. They have a Rec Program where the team plays against other MSI Rec teams (ie MSI Rec League).

They also have a Classic Program that has parent-coached teams as well as paid professional coaches. They also have a Classic League. Most of the teams are MSI teams but other club teams can also play in the MSI Classic league. (MSI Classic League)

They also have a Travel Program (MSI Academy). The MSI Academy teams play in various travel leagues depending upon their level of play. Teams can register to play in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) or Elite Development Program (EDP) league.
