I agree except the 'fix' is in as soon as they go to 11 v 11. It is not so much a fix as you are not going to make a top team if your kid is merely as good as an average player on that team. They need to be better. Top 5 on that team is a rough guess although certainly depends on a teams needs. Not a fix and frankly parents complaining their kid didnt make a team because they were 'as good as' players is silly. Development and history with a club shouldn't be everything but it should count. If they are better they are better. Think about all the kids on the 2nd and 3rd teams of those clubs. They NEVER get called up. You are much better coming from outside a club to make the top team then being internal. Not fair either as a number of them could play with the top team,

Anyway, 1. coaches make up their minds about kids and they are directed to various levels in a club 2. Coaches do like shiny new toys but they need to be strong because 3. they dont want constant turmoil and chaos.

Agreed. My only point is that by u15, elite soccer teams are like college programs in that coaches know exactly what the needs are and if a player is strong enough to make an impact then they will offer that player a spot knowing that it could cause disruptions to the finely oiled machine that that they have been building but they generally already know who the new players are so ID sessions are not helpful.

Professional clubs, as opposed to amateur ones. Our local pro club, unfortunately, is not all that interested in developing youth players, but ideally that would be the best solution.
