APS school board meeting, anything new?

Duran is not answering any questions. He's ignoring everyone asking about "why" we can't get more days in class. He is a buffoon and I wish the SB would get rid of him immediately.

Priddy was almost embarrassed when he said he would like to see kids in more days. PRIDDY HE WORKS FOR YOU--- YOU TOLD HIM TO BRING YOU A PLAN FOR MORE KIDS AND HE DIDN'T DO IT-- HOLD THE MAN ACCOUNTABLE.

Can we get someone, anyone on the SB with a backbone for crying out loud?!?!!? This is unacceptable. the man needs to be fired!!!!

No, he doesn't. He's actually trying to follow CDC guidelines.

Oh look ventilation lady showed up.

CDC guidelines are 3 feet. But it's too challenging for the clowns to figure out. So no, he's not following CDC guidelines.

I'm not the "ventilation lady", dipsit.

smart restar supporter then

Supporting Duran doesn’t mean you are automatically radically opposed to schools being open

Smart Restart is not opposed to having schools open. SR has been advocating for safety measures to open schools safely all along.

APE is anti safety so they push the ridiculous narrative that SR is anti opening. Not long now until APE starts pushing no masks. They are already pushing no distancing.

And now they're claiming Virtual kids have it easier because they have "take home tests" while hybrid kids have to take "real tests" in school. Good lord. These people never stop complaining!

that man is the WORST.. I don't know how the SB is letting him get away with not answering their questions and asks.

He has said "5 days in the fall" multiple times. He has been very clear with his communication so that is on you if you can't keep up.

On in person days, my kid is still mostly being taught over the iPad. She gets 40 minutes of in person teaching as an elementary student, and that 40 minutes is concurrent with another in person class.

APS is allowing more than one elementary class to be taught by a single teacher, effectively doubling class sizes while the virtual class' teacher just "supervises" instead of teaching. This is happening.

Even when the teacher is present, they are often choosing to play pre recorded videos instead of offering live teaching. Yesterday was a gloriously beautiful day. For PE, the kids watched a video in the gym of the PE teacher giving a lesson, who was present and not doing anything.

APS needs to up its game and stop relying on screens. It's so so lazy and there is zero reason to believe that this is going to change in the fall.

I agree that sounds awful and I’m not being contrary, but my fourth graders experience is nothing like that! Coming home with work done on paper, drawings, poems, study guides. They even did art outside one day.

My third grader’s experience hasn’t been anything like what pp described either.

I'm a building sub, so I go into a lot of classes. It's not like that at my school, either.

To the person dropping the "F" bomb and telling others to shut-up, this is the entirety of what Duran said in your 4/6 school talk on this subject:

"Plan for five-day schedules for summer school and the 2021-22 school year. We will be providing a full in-person model and a full distance learning model of five days of learning for the 2021-22 school year. I will continue to keep you informed about the details, as plans develop."

APS was also planning for hybrid to start in September last year, so pardon me if I'm not entirely taking APS at its word here without a lot more information.

Exactly - they need to vote no confidence and get him out of that job NOW

That does sound awful but also not my 2nd grader's experience. They barely use the ipad on in person days.

I fully appreciate that this isn't happening everywhere, but that doesn't make it any less infuriating. APS seems to think this is fine, as repeat emails and phone calls have done nothing. It also means that it is ripe to proliferate to other schools.

We have the worst school board and it wasn't great under Murphy who was way worse as a super.

Please remember that APS lost a huge lawsuit on how ELS kids were educated here and he was hired to fix that, not global pandemic or even manage this $600M dollar "business".

If APS doesn't get its act together soon, they are going to face many more lawsuits.

Also read the board named the Reed school "Cardinal Elementary". So uninspired.

I wish I was smart enough to initiate that.. I'll certainly sign it though. Couldn't agree more he needs to be fired. It's unbelievable what that man is getting away with. In any other profession he would be fired by now.

Seriously? You are going to try to get a superintendent who hasn’t even been in the seat for 9 months fired? He was hired during a pandemic and has appeared level headed and calm this whole time. There are a lot of school systems that are operating on similar hybrid schedules still. It’s not like APS is this random outlier here. No one is ever going to be 100% loved by everyone- I hated Murphy and think he would have been awful during this time. At least Duran communicates and is transparent. I’d love to get kids back more days a week but at this point I will settle for what we have- which is switching kids from virtual to hybrid and get kids in 5 days a week in August.

He is a complete failure and should be fired. He has failed to provide any substantial plan and I have zero faith this will change for the fall. hybrid and concurrent is here to stay until covid disappears. anyone who doesn't see that either doesn't care or is paranoid.

He has a plan - you just don't like it. And, guess what, his plan includes opening 5 days in the fall.

Go get some exercise or find a healthier way to manage your anger issues.

Sure, his plan includes opening 4 days in the fall. Where has he committed to 5 FULL days in the fall? He hasn't. Wishful thinking.

Report back in August when this magically changes to oops, we can't figure it out so we're doing hybrid again.

He has said "5 days in the fall" multiple times. He has been very clear with his communication so that is on you if you can't keep up.

Go read the Tuesday 4/6 School Talk message for the latest if you want to see with your own eyes. I haven't watched the SB meeting but he may have discussed it last night as well.

STFU until you are better informed.

Are you always this pleasant? You seem like a lovely person.

No, he's aiming for 5 days a week in the fall. IDGAF because my kid is graduating but I still am part of the fight to get all kids that want to go back. And yes it is a fight with these as@hats in charge.

And no, I won't STFU. I will start yelling louder though since that's the only thing that works in APS.

Aiming for. NOWHERE has he committed to 5 days a week. You have reading comprehension skills if you think he has.
