Should all schools be DL for two weeks after Spring Break?

That’s just a recommendation.

Seems to me that the folks that feel like they need to travel should be the ones taking responsibility for spending a handful of days at home to make sure they didn’t pick anything up while traveling and not expecting everyone else to be the shock absorbers for their behavior.

You’re going to have COVID positive kids in school period. Whether people travel or not. If you’re not ok with that don’t send your kids.

LCPS has not said a word about anyone quarantining following travel or group gatherings.

The same thing could have happened if they stayed in town.

Kids can and do infect other kids. They have the same viral load as adults.

False.

“This 40,000-person study found that children under 15 were about half as likely as adults to be infected, and only half as likely as adults to transmit the virus to others. Almost all the coronavirus transmissions to children came from adults.“

What would stop families from then just taking those virtual weeks off and traveling then? Safer to have the schools open with precautions and keep families from heading to the beaches of Florida.

They still can do that if they want to. Students can sign in virtually from anywhere for any reason. It’s been happening already for trips and some of mine have let me know they won’t be in school this week because they are going on vacation early. In the past they would be absent. Now they can log on with co concurrent teaching and travel any time.

This isn’t going to happen. People can keep their kids home if they want.

So what are your thoughts on the 15-18 yr olds in High School?

Teachers and staff are vaccinated now so now that they are no longer in danger of irresponsible parenting, they don’t care.

If they weren’t vaxxed yet, then yeah there would be a whole lot more drama around returning after break. Add to this it took them a year to get kids back in the building. No one trusts them if they say DL would only be temporary.

I think I’m sick of my kindergartner being kept out of school because the needs of high schoolers are different re: covid.

Not all spouses are vaccinated and a lot of us are also parents. We want schools to stay open because we want our own children in school. People forget how many teachers are parents. We have the same risk as you. My teen could come home and infect my unvaccinated husband. Hopefully he gets it soon but I’m sane enough to realize that’s not a reason to keep schools closed. I can keep him home with DL if I’m that worried and I can go to work.
