| OP I am glad this was finally resolved for you. She probably didn't think it was a big deal...I remember being that age and things that are important when you are 21 aren't the same things as when you're 41. I am actually a full time nanny but babysit for a few families part time. One family made a copy of my driver's license my first day. Maybe that is something to consider with future sitters? You will have basic info on her if anything happens. |
| Thanks for the resolution post! |
| Does anyone else think that right now on DC Urban College Students there is a long thread about the crazy former employer who called and called and called about a spare key - so often that the poor girl was starting to be afraid and feel like she was being stalked? My god, the woman actually visited her place of employment, but luckily she wasn't there at the time (or she hid in the back, and some helpful co-workers ran interference for her). After posting to see what she should do (and receiving some helpful and some snarky comments), she finally decided to not answer her phone, and just leave the key in the mailbox with a nice note in the hope that there wouldn't be any further contact with the crazy lady? One more call or visit, though, and she's calling a lawyer! |
Hey, if that's what it would take to get the babysitter to do the right thing at last, then I say bravo to DC Urban College Students! |
| Thank you for letting us know what happened, OP. And I'm glad you got the key back! |
| Yes, I agree. OP can go back to worrying about other extraneous stupid ass shit now that THIS stupid ass shit is resolved. Look forward to future posts about weird noises in her house, extramarital sippy cup problems and queries about if it's OK to drink a latte after it's sat out on a diaper changing table for over twenty minutes. |
OP again--you're welcome! I'm glad too! |
| She was probably just busy with things in her own life. You never know what she has been going through---maybe a bad break-up, depression, death in the family, who knows. She is young and in a different phase and probably just procrastinated and didn't think it was that urgent of a thing. I wouldn't hold it against her, really. |
| Thank you so much for the update OP. I actually bookmarked this post so that I could check back to see if/when it got resolved. So glad you got your key back! |
| I'll bet every single one of you posters who has accused the OP of being "crazy" or going overboard is one of those people who doesn't return stuff they've borrowed, doesn't bother to call when they can't make an appointment, doesn't think it's worth their time to let people know if they can't keep a commitment, etc. You think you're just so important and so much more busy than the rest of us that the rules never apply to you. Newsflash: nobody is so damn important or busy that they have no time to be responsible and courteous. If you don't bother, you're just an arrogant asshole. |
Bajeezus Chryst. This isn't a "case." You just pay a lawyer to write on lawyerly stationary that such and such desires her car key back, immediately. The key belongs to the rightful owner. You know, state the facts for $150 plus shipping and handling. [Edit: removed snarky comment about key-retrieval law.] This is what I did to get my property back from a lazy, irresponsible but otherwise harmless former roommate once upon a time. Worked brilliantly to get bac kmy stuff, but had to go to small claims court for the back rent. |
No, I think the girl was shamed into doing the right thing. |
| Good for you OP. People will be snarky around here for any reason. |
| maybe she really liked this family and was sad that she couldn't work for them anymore and the key was just a little souvenir of how much she enjoyed the family...weird, but you never know. |
