Creepiest, bleakest places you've ever been to

The worst energy I’ve ever felt anywhere was on an empty road leading to an open field in Cassedega, Florida. It is supposed to be a super high-vibe town. And for the most part, it was. But that road really got to me. I’m sensitive to energy and truly had a hard time breathing. I didn’t stay in that space long enough to even try to feel into whatever it was.

Are there people who have cursed the road? Probably.

Even the “nice” parts of NJ look like they need a good coat of paint.

NJ resident here. In true Jersey fashion, f*** off.

Cumberland, MD. Something just feels off and creepy. And this is coming from someone who has spent years driving through western Pennsylvania on the way to my hometown near Youngstown.

I don't love NJ, but I don't hate it either. Silly posts.

Parts of Kansas City. It's getting better but it's still depressing even in the heart of the business district.

Oooh, agree. I went there on an ill-fated "vacation" once.

But that’s the point. I was actually thinking about the counties this article talks about. Morris County is the 4th richest county in the nation according to this, and Morristown is a pretty gray, bleak-looking place, compared to most affluent towns. The downtown shops look like they haven’t been painted in 30 years. There are some pretty farms out there, but any of the towns are grim. Compare the “horse country” towns of NJ to Middleburg.

Seaside, Oregon. Just a hellscape of horrible arcades (basically slot machines for 9 year old boys), gross food, and heroin addicts, and you feel like a tsunami is going to wipe you out at any second. My kid loved it, though.

What was ill fated about the “vacation”?

Klamath Falls, OR.

I think that photos would add a lot to most of these "nominations" though it's kind of a creepy, bleak topic for a travel forum.
