What were you doing the moment you found out your child was accepted to an elite private school?

I can not decide which is funnier, the wonderful and imaginative scenarios being shared or the few posters who are popping in with an actual testimonials to share.

Sure you can tell them apart?

Pre-K: It was a balmy spring evening. I was drinking a small gin and tonic and stuffing larks' cheeks with jamon iberico when my butler brought me the letter on a silver tray.

St. Albans: It was cold. I was upstairs having my anus bleached. I snorted a little Bolivian marching powder in celebration.

Yale: I was whipping the new maid a rolled-up copy of Horse and Hounds - there had been an unforgivable incident with a Ming Vase. Weather: overcast, light rain later.

Harvard Law School: the butler found me asleep in the stables after a large dose of ketamine. In my drug-induced fog I could barely take in the good news. I must have slept with half of Mclean in the course of the next week.

You did, but you were fab, darling.

Kisses,
Bitsy

The first thing that I pulled out of the envelope was a Beauvoir sticker for the rear window of my car. My eyes filled with tears of joy. Weak-kneed, I slumped to the ground, babbling deliriously. Now I would get to put that sticker on my car, and everyone would finally understand how important and special I was! I had achieved my dream! My life was perfect! I kissed the envelope and then fainted, right there in the front hall.

This post is silly. When I started reading I thought it was going to ask about when you found out about college acceptance.

That wouldn't have been any fun. This is fun.

I think the difference is funny versus sad!

Of course it's silly - that's the point. Gotta have some diversions between now and Friday/Saturday.

Pre-K: It was a cold day. I lived in an apartment and the fat envelope was jammed inside the box. At first I thought it was a magazine, but when I pulled it out, I saw the logo of green children holding hands.

St. Albans: I was having a Christmas open house and my son ran out to get the mail for me. I was holding a tray of stuffed mushrooms when I saw the envelope in his hand...

Norman Rockwell moments indeed.

This is by far the funniest thread I have ever seen!

Um . . . ahem . . . you're referring to the liberal Washington elite . . .you know, the ones who embrace the idea of diversity but actually prefer to educate their children "away from the masses."

I actually do remember because the school that was perfect for my DC calls people personally. And I had just had very bad news the call some minutes before (a death in the family). Then some good news. So this is not always a joke.

I have three children and they have been accepted 6 times to various elite schools and I don't remember any of the times. I do remember the relief I felt when I got the financial aid letters, however.

OP is definitely a suburbanite striver who did everything to send her kid to a DC Big 3. Actually kudos might be in order.
