Any hope from parents of long term picky eaters?

I have 3 children. One was never really picky, one was picky and mostly grew out of it, and one is still extremely picky.

My still-picky child is in her early 20s now and still has a somewhat limited range of foods she will eat. She doesn't want to be picky, but she just can't deal with certain foods. In her case, it's related to other things going on with her, and she's working on it with her therapist. She has added some new foods in the past year, which is good progress for her.

My picky-but-grew-out-of-it kid just had normal kid pickiness. Offering him a range of foods but not making a big deal about what he would/wouldn't eat is all he needed, and now he eats most things.

Picky eaters come in all kinds. My 12 yo loves spicy and flavorful food, is very picky about his cheeses (the more expensive the better), whether on a pizza or straight up and will have any kind of seafood, as long as it is cooked and spiced. Veggies on the other hand are a constant battle -- no salad, nothing steamed, will eat greens if sauteed etc. I would think it is some kind of sensory issue with texture and flavor and I hope it changes. Eating at friends' places is always a challenge but he makes do.

Your friend is abusive. My mom’s parents did this to her as well. She vowed never to abuse her own children, thank goodness.

Spent the night at my cousins growing up and her parents wouldn’t let me up until I ate a green bean. I sat there all night. Your friend is wrong and her kids will be getting away from her fast when their older.

Ugh, My teen DD is like this and super-finicky about everything: clothes, food, school materials, room furnishings and books. The sad thins is that my toddler was a good eater but now has started to copy the teen but chooses junkier foods. My teen is picky but eats very healthy choices.

sure, I'm the hope. Very picky as a child, I didn't eat cheese except on pizza til I went to college.
However, my own DS became vegetarian at age 6, and at 19 seems still to be sticking to it!
