Nobody likes my cake :-(

It sounds like you put in a lot of work, and that it is a cake that would appeal to some people. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it would be my personal taste (I'm sort of minimalist about cakes, nothing too sweet). So I would just take it as your husband and teen having different tastes, rather than a knock on you.

I've made a similar cake OP and you must have known it wouldn't be everyone's taste.

Agree with this. I think fruit desserts are very polarizing FYI especially anything with jam. This goes for the chocolate and raspberry cake poster too.

I hope you didn't mope around and make them feel bad for not liking it.

Yep I make key lime pie and my MIL will steal the leftovers and loves it but my DH will not touch it.

I made a perfect sponge cake, with just eggs, sugar, flour and orange zest. This was my first attempt.
Then soaked it in clementine juice-hard cider jelly and topped it with clementines softened in their juice.

It’s moist in the center, slightly crunchy at the edge, and light and fruity. Not too sweet. You can’t taste any alcohol, it just gives it a bit of depth. And yet either DH nor my teens liked it.

Ingrates.

Maybe it doesn't taste good. Sounds fancy though

That was random...

And stupid. Many American cakes are not “butter cakes.” Twinkies are a variant of sponge cake.

This. My sister is known for making this ridiculously difficult and over the top dishes as some sort of "look what an amazing chef/baker I am". But they rarely taste amazing.

I don’t like soaked cakes, sorry. Trifle, tiramisu, rum cake, etc.

Same. The flavor of it sounds good, but I don't like the texture of soaked cakes.

OP, you just described my dream! Making a fabulous cake, and then getting to eat all of it with no guilt whatsoever. My family would have eaten all of it and I would have had nothing but a tiny piece.

God this. Cakes like that make me gag.

Yep, I’ve endured too many soaked English cakes/trifles.

People are really picky about cakes esp with fruit and nuts and stuff like that. I made the mistake of asking family what they’d like when I ordered a cake for a gathering and ended up with vanilla on vanilla. And some people still whined they didn’t like “this type of frosting.”

I think it is just a case of them not being familiar with that taste! Kids like what they are used to.
