Being asked by school to cancel travel or quarantine for 7-10 days.

Yes of course. If you are outraged by this, then I hope you get what you deserve.

Just lie.

Me too. Over Thanksgiving, we drove to our vacation home with just our family, but we still quarantined because DH went to the grocery store once. I'm sure our situation isn't what the policy is for, but I need to follow it if others are.

Do you quarantine when you go to the grocery store here too?

DP. Yes, we quarantine after grocery store visits. We only go about once every 3 weeks.

Really? Why not just do curbside pickup?

DP but we don’t go anywhere besides the grocery store and daycare anyway so it’s easy to quarantine other than daycare drop off. Never take DC to the store so they don’t need to isolate just us.

If your kid is going to daycare, you are not quarantining.

+1 I don't even know what PP means when they say "quarantining". That is just normal living in the times of corona.

It’s like saying you have a “bubble” when at least one parent works in person, a kid attends school, and your “bubble” is 3 other families plus the kid your kid carpools to school with (real world example- I know a family with this exact scenario!)

If it's a DC-based provider, they are just enforcing the DC quarantine regulations, which they are explicitely allowed to. DC requires either a negative test result or a quarantine if you are returning from a state or country in the hotlist (pretty much the entire world right now).

To be able to detect an infection contracted on the return trip, the test should be taken no less than 72 hours after returning home, and people should quarantine until they get the results, so there's no scenario in which you would be able to return to daycare immediately after traveling.

We just received an email asking us not to travel, spend the night in another person’s house or attend large gatherings. They further state that if they hear about these unsafe practices, children will be asked to quarantine and/or provide a negative COVID test.

So, anyone else?

100% why the words MUST BE SAID. Lots of people cannot be left to their own devices. They said this at Thanksgiving. How would it make sense to travel in December?? For the love of God.

I’m sorry I wasn’t clear!! My sons go to different schools. One son’s school is requiring quarantine after travel - the other is not. If they stick with this protocol, we will keep YDS out for 2 weeks since there were families who traveled over thanksgiving and didn’t quarantine, which resulted in a positive case.

I’d like to point out to the owner that this is not an imposition - everyone is requiring it!

Anyone care to share the name of their center/school?

Both schools should have sent you a letter. You should not have scheduled Christmas travel.

Seems reasonable. We are traveling but since our kids aren’t in in person school (and won’t be fine the foreseeable future) I am fine (and plan to) quarantine for a week once we get back.

Anonymous wrote:Why is traveling any different than families who will hire different childcare when daycare is closed? Or kids whose parents interact with lots of people every day (by necessity or by choice)? You have to accept the risk of daycare. It sucks that society has made this so hard, with a lack of parental leave, family leave, and ill conceived covid measures (or lack of any measures). Also do you really think the employees and directors won't meet with local family? Or won't take a temporary job given their pay? Or babysit even? You are all trying to fight human nature.

We each need to do what we can to protect ourselves and others. Sacrifices are being made all around you.

It should be a necessary sacrifice not theatrics. We can't afford to ask people to make stupid sacrificed. Save energy for things that wil have an impact.
