Should Northern Virginia be its own State?

Your flagship would be George Mason.

Yes it sounds Republican. But in fact the blue portions of VA pay more taxes and subsidize the poorer Republican counties. They would miss Nova if it broke away.

We should also split up other large Blue states to further increase the ratio, too! CA, NY, NJ, MA, HI, we could add dozens more seats in the Senate, all Dem controlled.

Read the Article One Section Five of the Constitution. If we can get to a 2/3rds majority in the Senate, the Majority Leader can then start holding votes to expel members. So even though the redneck states would elect them and send them here, they’d get booted out immediately. We can put in place a permanent Democratic majority that could never, ever be challenged.

That’ll work until every Red state spilts up on the county-level in retaliation and they all collectively send 9,000 Senators to Washington.

Still think it’s a good idea now?

We would probably be the best run state within the union; and envy for others throughout this great country

Let me guess, are you a Democrat?

troll, the second line is definitely trolling and not genuine

Why? I'm a northern VA democrat and also believe we shouldn't have to subsidize the rest of the state to the extent that we do. Particularly when it comes to roads. There is no reason for our traffic to look the way it does given the amount of money we send to Richmond.

This dynamic exists in nearly every state; it’s not unique to Virginia. Higher-income areas subsidize lower-income areas. It’s also the reality on a national scale: wealthier (i.e. “donor”) states subsidize poorer states.

Of course northern Va subsidizes the rest of Va and that’s not going to change, but our infrastructure should be paid from those tax revenues too. We shouldn’t pay taxes to build a road and then tolls on top of that to use it. At least the latest toll on 66 is required to be reinvested in NoVa.

We pay a regional gas tax that funds infrastructure projects in northern Virginia. Folks in Hampton Roads and along the I-81 corridor do the same.

Your attitude about "subsidizing" is interesting, especially for a self-proclaimed Democrat. In any case, you see this same dynamic play out across the country. Maybe you'd be happier in Wyoming?
