Where did McLean go wrong?

I wonder how many of the older teams are carry overs from the days when McLean was a DA and had stronger teams, vs now when they are dealing with more competition.

U12: 1-0 (W)
U13: 7-1 (W)
U14: 7-0 (W)
U15: 4-2 (W)
U16: 1-1 (T)
U17: 1-1 (T)
U19: 4-2 (L)

It's also worth noting that the U16 and U17 games were pretty one sided in terms of play - McLean got lucky with the results. When the U16 boys played Arlington the following week in the state cup the result was 4-0 to Arlington .

I agree Arlington U16 is a better team. But for that state cup game, McLean lost one main player in first half and also referee denied two goals from McLean in first half. Arlington dominated on the second half and scored all 4 goals. McLean lost another player due to concussion and had to play with 10 players.

Sure, another lucky draw was just 4 goals away.
Home court with referee's help got you a lucky win.

Lol. Dream on...

Can you provide a list of commitments? I'm curious to see the schools.

McLean 06 picked up several new players.

McLean class of 2021 will look a lot like the class of 2020. Multiple power 5 conference commits, multiple Ivy League, strong programs like Georgetown

Ok I look forward to seeing the list. I heard about a few at Georgetown but was told the rest were way down in numbers as well as caliber. Less than 10 committed right now with a few at lesser D1 schools

They played friendlies over the winter too and Arlington won both the U16 and U17 games by large margins as well.

Too bad Arlington's best players left for DCU or other MLS league team. Who has to stay in ECNL is not that elite anymore.

I would say that the Arlington U16 team is stronger now than last year.

If you consider a half dozen ACC schools including Duke, a handful of schools that qualified for the NCAA tournament and a competitive Ivy League program lesser then you are living in a different world than the rest of us. I don't know what McLean is doing and if it can last but I don't believe that there is a program in the area with its track record. FCV comes close and MUFC and Bethesda are good programs but when I watch a UVA vs Clemson or UNC vs Duke and see former McLean players in meaningful roles on all four teams, you have to give them some credit. There were players from Bethesda and FCV in the Duke/UNC game.

If it is wrong to produce such a list of commits, what is right?

The oldest McLean girls team also had a 2021 player who committed to play at Duke but family has now relocated across the country, so no longer on the team

Does McLean really have college players playing on their oldest ECNL team right now?

A single DMV club could account for the entire starting lineup at UNC, Duke, UVA and Stanford, and people here will still tear it down.

Agreed. I don't get it. It's silly and ugly all at the same time. Now the inferences you want to draw about such lists can also be silly and ugly as well. And if we're taking all of this seriously, don't tell me about where they get scholarships. Tell me where they end up going to graduate school or getting hired. This isn't about playing soccer for the rest of your life, or even where you go to undergrad.
