| This is the hybrid plan at most schools that are in person. I think it needs to be clearly visualized for parents so they understand this. |
Private schools have rules and they enforce them. If your kid doesn't follow them, back to DL he goes. Public schools haven't enforced rules in years and I doubt they will start now. |
I am so tired of hearing this. Teachers have so much anger and resentment. There is no point in reopening schools, because obviously is it more important to dwell on the past than to make any effort to make the best of this terrible situation and create new policies. It is never going to be "safe enough" for teachers. |

I have a friend with a son in 2nd grade in AA. He said he has to stay in a 6x6 area, wear a mask all day except when eating lunch and they don't get to go outside. I am all for the kids going back safely, but not like this.
They should be able to take mask breaks and go outside. |
Is this public or private? Is there a reason why they kids can't go outside? |
Public. I dont know ( I am the PP) I asked if they have to wear their masks outside and he ( The Dad) said theyre not going outside. I said, not at all, and he said no. They stay in their classroom. |
Same PP. This hasnt started. This is what he has been told about the hybrid return. |
Not sure where that friend is getting the info, but it's wrong. You can see all the details on the AACPS.org website. The kids WILL be going outside for recess, when the weather allows (as far as I know they're keeping with the 32 degree limit they've always used.) What he might be misinterpreting is that the kids won't be able to have free-run of the playground as they usually do - they'll be in designated areas to keep the classes/cohorts separate. - mom of a 3rd grader in aacps. |

They do have to wear masks outside, though. Although one of the BoE members mentioned outside "mask breaks" so not sure exactly what that looks like.
And honestly... this latest discussion is why it's such a cluster. There are SO many unanswered questions and details keep changing, so at this point there are just tons of rumors and everyone is confused and stressed. The decision deadline was supposed to be tomorrow. Just today, they've extended it to next Monday. |
Again, private school kids are wearing masks for long periods and doing fine. |
I know. I have one in private in person and one in Aacps. Doesn’t change the fact that the lack of details and frequent changes is causing a ton of unnecessary stress and angst. It also is leading to rumors like the above poster saying the kids won’t go outside at all, which is wrong. |

Does anyone at AACPS honestly think we will actually go back to a school building this year? I know TAAAC and the hysterical PASS FB group are working VERY hard behind the scenes to force another vote at the 10/21 BOE meeting. And Pittman's statements aren't helping the reopening case either.
My guess is that the BOE will revisit/revote on 10/21 based on it not being "safe enough" to reopen. And then of course, in January, the case counts will be up and it definitely won't be "safe enough" to reopen then. And it won't make sense to go back for 2 months in the spring. So we'll essentially just be virtual all year. Sorry to be such a pessimist but I just don't see the playing out any other way. Get on those private school waiting lists now! |
That’s the model our private uses for high school kids. Half the kids at home on zoom, half in the classroom, it works just fine. |
Yah, I think Dr. K's statement about 10 cases/100,000 being the cutoff to start back to school, I think that's the "out" the board is going to use to change their minds without saying they're actually changing their minds. I'm actually thrilled we finally have a solid metric that people are using to make these decisions. Now we just need clarification on the timeline. Are they looking at that running average value on 11/5? On 10/21? I hope if they do call this off, they at least do it before teachers have to go back and in enough time for people to figure out new childcare arrangements if needed. |
You are relying on a 7 year old to report accurately what hybrid will be like? |
