Your whataboutism is showing... |

There’s an important point many are missing about this film. It’s a French movie by a Senegalese immigrant. It has nothing to do with your pearl-clutching prudish American culture. As a matter of fact, the danse scenes are typical of traditional Senegalese dancing. Just watch the video below to understand.

| I see both sides. I don’t think it’s “child porn” and I think that’s an upsetting comparison. While I see the value of the cultural commentary, I feel very sad for those young actors. How will they feel about it in three or five or ten years looking back on it? Will they be embarrassed or feel exploited? |
The dance routine was exactly what Dance Moms did for 9 seasons. The dance routine is a small part of the movie. People need to watch in it's entirety before criticizing. There have been movies like this in the past and there wasn't a big outcry. |
Do you also think Wayfair is selling children? |
I am guessing the main reasons Republicans are pissed off is because its black girl, they never said anything about dance moms or toddlers and tiaras or anything other show that is showings girls skin. |
Bingo!! That's it! It's a mostly black cast and black director. Hence the outcry. |
NP. It's a logical extension of the discussion. The fact that it doesn't convenient fit into your poorly reasoned argument does not make it a derailment. So far all I've seen is the director interview and its clear it's meant to be a critique of what real freedom is. Spoiler: young girls wearing sexy clothes and doing provocative dances does not equal freedom. It's a commentary against those things, held up against the backdrop of the opposite end of the spectrum (being forced to cover your body and do what men tell you to do is not freedom either). Compare that to the child pageant culture, which rewards parents for sexualizing their children starting from preschool age. |
You are falling for it. Once there is "precedent" they will push the boundaries further and further. Shameful. Those zoomed in angles and gyrations. Yuck. |
It doesn't matter what the director intended if the execution is POOR. Stop making excuses for this degeneracy. All of this theorizing and narrative is just the sugar coating on a poison pill. |
This exactly! |
Not everything is about race. Stop reaching. |

"blah blah blah black people." You guys are down to your last two brain cells to rub together. The hate for this movie has nothing to do with black people in any way shape or form. Here's a little clip posted to reddit of the movie showing some of the dance "from senegalese culture" (I can't believe someone actually wrote that drivel):

This is the scourge of identity politics. They justify pedo and criminal behavior so long as the identity politics are not jeopardized. Very uncomfortable viewing. |
Of course! It just HAS to be about race! You are so smart PP!
