Are your schools in touch about their plans?

Sample schedules are here by grade level. They can then be tweaked by individual schools to accommodate classes. (Think about an in person sample schedule that might have art/PE/music at 10–not everyone can have specials at 10 so it will vary by class and grade level. I think it’s reasonable to expect a few weeks of planning to schedule dozens of classes per building. The in person schedule took my school three months to build last year.

Your not wrong. The point is they should have worked on laying all of this out months ago. They closed school early to work on this and then had all summer. There should have been fully assembled plans completed at that time.

Tell the school. They should get you a hot spot or upgraded internet.

I am sure our HRCS is working hard but the lack of information makes it seem like they are dithering

I love my school, but the silence is deafening and they are leaving parents with no time to plan. We don't know if we need to supervise learning all school day, or just an hour or two. We don't know if my 3 year old will be required to show up for a zoom class. This is super frustrating.

What school? Lee provided a sample day schedule for primary, lower elementary and upper elementary at a Town Hall last week. It looks like CHML is doing the same starting next week. I assume preschool will track closely with DCPS (30-60 minutes a day of "synchronous" learning, everything else asynchronous

My school did the same - Friendship Woodridge.

We got an email with general information about the schedule -- a sample schedule showing how the blocks would work, and indicating how much live online content each grade could expect. Class lists to come out next week.

True. Not loving the emails and meetings that say a whole lot of nothing. Other than praising the work the staff is doing. Yep, we know you are all working to figure it out. Yep, we know we have great teachers and staff. Yep, we know we should shut up and be greatful.
Yep, we still have work and real life to plan around. Not all of us can work from home, not all of us have flexible schedules. Heck, not all of us will have a place to call home once the rent freezing ends.

Wow sounds like some narcissism going on there instead of addressing family needs with schedule and plan.

ITDS seems to be planning for a pretty full school day with DL. It seems most grades have a mix of online, class, small group and off-line through out the day.
I am glad they seem to have a fairly set and constant schedules. They did great in the spring though time and such were all different. There was certainly a wide range of teaching styles and schedules. I am not a fan of DL on the computer most of the day and have no idea how to make this work for our kids. I am glad it will be more predictable and that we can plan around things better this fall.

Yeah, there is a lot of that happening.

The school day for DCPS ends at 3:15 and teachers end at 3:30. Why the switch to 4? I’m happy to work an extra 30 mins as a teacher but this is the issue at hand. DCPS has a collective bargaining agreement with the WTU. Why would this not be floated past the union? I can hear the ‘f:,& the union’ remarks already but if DCPS had good faith, it would stop with the surprises. It helps no one and further erodes the trust (what little there may be left).

You’re starting a half hour later, ending a half hour later.

Parent here: This upsets me because I was planning on working from 3:30-6:30 and already had this portion approved by my boss. Now I’m hearing this may change? It’s things like this that make me mad. TELL THE PARENTS. We are trying to schedule our work day as well and this is use rude

Tell your boss that 3:30 - 6:30 is your current plan, but it may have to change. And figure out what backup you'll need to have if there's a conflict. This isn't rocket science.

NP here but is it so hard to imagine someone’s boss is not so flexible as you describe? Not everyone can just tell their boss they are working certain times but that might change. Have some compassion that parents are in really stressful situations.

We just got an email with a nice summary of the situation and a promise for more information next week (including pick-up times for consumables and other needed materials). No specifics on schedules/times. It was nice to hear from school leadership and reassuring to have a better idea of when more information would be available. They also asked for families to reach out to them if they needed any technology and/or general school supplies.

Creative minds provided a schedule for pre-k and kinder+, the apps, and told us when to expect our devices to be ready. They've been communicating really well in my opinion.

We're at Bethune and just got full schedules with the apps and device info today. Not sure the nanny share will be able to keep up with the schedule, but I assume they'll be flexible and we'll do the best we can.
